Just found a storage container - instant headshell storage!

I forgot that I had these, must have picked them up at a thrift store or garage sale sometime in the past. Looking at the size, I figured just maybe I could use them for headshell storage.

I think that they work pretty well! Of course, if storing with the stylus installed, a stylus guard is a must. The only problem is that the top doesn't snap down very tightly.

They're made for storing paper craft punches.

Thanks! Looks like this may be a discontinued item though. I can only find it on Amazon, but they want $12.99 plus shipping. I probably only paid around .50 - $1 each, so I'm happy :)
 
That works. I keep meaning to drill out a board so I can store my mounted carts vertical. With my woodworking skills, it will likely take me 2 weeks & cost a couple hundred dollars...... so I keep putting it off.

You and me both! In theory simple enough, but you'd have to also account for the headshell pin and cut out a notch for it. I'd probably screw that part up.
 
Drill a small hole first, (the correct size for the pin) then drill the larger hole next to it, so the holes intersect. :idea:
 
I built this one. They sell model car display cases at a lot of stores, but at Hobby Lobby, if you get their app, you can get 40% off of one full price item. This case cost me under $5 and the oak board I had as a scrap in the garage. Drilled it out, put some clear silicon on the bottom and stuck it onto the bottom of the case and there it is!

Beautiful! You're inspiring me now. Did you cut out a notch for the pins? If not, do they stay secure anyway?

Thanks Saunadog. Actually, I just oversized the holes to fit. They are a little loose but they stay in the holes. Whenever I get a minute, I have more scrap wood so I will do what John James said to do. That's a great idea. This was just a quickie project when I found the display cases. Always room for improvement. :idea:
These cases are for the smaller scale models. They have bigger cases too, depending on how many headshells you want to store.

Thanks Bob. Seriously easy! The hardest part was figuring the spacing. Had to use my brain for that part. :crazy: Luckily my extra headshells are all straight. If they were angled shells, it changes the entire layout.
 
At the risk of rehashing something from an older post, I fashioned this a few years back. A small router bit storage case (top removed) with some rubber grommets, which provide just enough friction to hold the headshells upright. I also have a slightly longer one just like this that holds 5.

I like the rubber grommet idea. No need to drill a pin slot. :thumbsup:
