At the close of the CEDIA show, I helped the nice folks at McIntosh pack up their booth. If you've ever seen one of their trade show setups, you know what a total shrine to McIntosh they are...

We packed up 28 pallettes of amps, preamps, cd players and speakers (and the new turntable) and when we were done, Ron Cornelius told us that the total load was just over 28 THOUSAND pounds!!!

But what was the most awesome part of the evening was that company president, Charlie Randall was right along side me, boxing amps and loading pallettes. That guy is incredible! He could have just sat there in his McIntosh director chair and ordered us all around, but he was working just as hard as anyone out there on the floor.

Five hours later, he treated us all to a killer dinner!

Definitely a great group of people....

Nice.

Did you get a chance to check out the new preamps? Lots of discussion on the turntable but not so much on the preamps

BTW, Love Tone -- great mag and very cool photos

Chris

Been checking out tone myself the last few days. Excellent rag. No nonsense approach. Be carefull with all that heavy Mac gear Jeff, don't sprain the typing fingers. :thmbsp:

Great Story, Charlie is the Best.

I sure hope that I never have to move my main System!

Not to worry, we will help you. You simply have a moving sale and invite only the Akers. We put numbers in a hat, lowest number goes in and select 3 to 4 items at :scratch2: 25% of original value because the stuff's been used. We do all the hard work you reap the benefits of not having to move anything.

Sounds like a plan!

As I read the title, but before I read the post, I thought that masterlu had gone shopping again....:D

You should have swapped the shipping labels and sent it ALL to him.... :lmao:

2300 is on its way to us....

Can't wait, I'm really excited that they put the phono preamp section of the flagship preamp inside and you can adjust gain and loading from the remote!!

In the interest of journalistic purity I would think a reviewer should never except a meal from a vendor. Doing favors and accepting them engages the primate side of the brain. Before long you're grooming the products of the vendor. That said, I'm sure Jeff is doing the right thing since modern reviewing standards certainly make room for this sort of close vendor reviewer relationship and it doesn't appear to bother anyone else.

BTW I read tone and think it is the most visually attractive offering on-line. I especially like the old school reviews...

Glad you like the magazine...

Trust me, it's going to take a lot more than a 30 dollar steak to write a tainted review...

Mom and dad raised me to lend a hand when I can... I've helped a lot of people pack their booths up over the years. It's just good karma.

Besides, if we write a review that isn't spot on, we don't serve anyone; the magazine, the customer or the reader. Even when I have recieved product from our advertisers that I felt didn't pass muster, I've sent it BACK.

Fortunately, this doesn't happen often...

For what it's worth, I haven't heard anything yet that McIntosh makes that is lousy, so that shouldn't be a big deal.

its kinda like the chicken and the egg. Do you enjoy the stuff you associate and are showered with? or do you associate and receive well the stuff you enjoy?

I am sure 50 steaks from Bose would not put it on the front cover...

Great story ! Its just one of the many reasons I dig Mc gear.

I also have even more respect for you and your back after lifting that much Mc gear

Having been an employee for many years, then in senior management with a large company and now an employer, I have always been impressed by any employer or company leader that rolls their sleeves-up and works with the rest of the team. This not only makes a great impression on employees, but customers too.

Very nice.
