Just joined, but been a reader-lurker for years...

Greetings!

Figured it's more than time to bite the proverbial bullet & join. My current project kinda dictates this as a necessity, let alone a plain good idea...

Background is pretty typical, I guess. Became fascinated with audio gear when I was in my early twenties & working for the now defunct Circuit City circa (say that five times fast) 1993ish. I was fortunate enough to acquire a pair of Crescendo CS-3007s at reasonable vendor-special pricing, which I still own. I was hooked on their dynamics early on... Enough so to have added a few others to the original pair (in a somewhat nostalgic fashion) over the last couple decades. Yep, they've all had their share of re-foams over the past 20+ years, but I've always liked the Crescendo's sound. They do many things quite well, nothing outright poorly, and their limitations are minor and livable.

Okay, so the project mentioned above - it involves those old Crescendos. For various reasons, I'm not utilizing the dedicated home theater I had at the house I sold last summer. New house has a pretty decent sized LR, so I'm not really complaining too much. Oddly enough, my wife is.

Seems those Crescendos with their very mid-90's golden oak finish just don't work with our decor & color scheme. I can't really disagree with her, I get it, really I do... therefore, I've stripped the finish from them, leaving just the grain. They're now a deep gray (General Finishes gel stain), soon to be accented with ebony grain filler, then finished in a hand-rubbed laquer-like high gloss. Thus, the impetus to join and ask some questions, seek advice, get a little feedback. I'll post my questions & pics in the appropriate forum - haven't looked yet, but I'm sure there must be a "speaker rehab" thread or two!

Thanks all, looking forward to a long exchange of good advice, interesting topics, and good old general "audio comradery".

Best,
Chet72

Welcome I'm a newbie here also hooked. I have a new little Pioneer sx-680 I'll be refurbishing the exterior laminate vinyl no sanding required lol. Good luck with your speaker exteriors sounds like you have it covered.

I subscribed in lieu of all the information I acquired and assistance available here, call it guilt.
Welcome

Yes, pics are helpful. Here's one of the current setup (sorry for how dark it is, I took that pic after I installed bias lighting to the back of my TV). Once the Crescendos are done, it'll look just a tad different... I also included some before, during, and after pics of the speakers while in process of being stripped & refinished. They're currently curing with the second coat of gel stain. When I get back (traveling at the moment), I'll fine sand and then use a sanding sealer before applying the ebony tinted grain filler. Oh, and a complete refoam as well. As Ripley would say, "it's the only way to be sure".
