Just joined the club with a KR-6600

After sniffing around here for a while and looking around for a good deal on a small amp/receiver to power my Senns HD595, got a Kenwood KR-6600 on the 'bay from a local seller for $31. Just picked it up - and realized that when it comes to vintage, "small" is a very relative term. It's very clean - although it doesn't have a wood cabinet, which I'm not a big fan of anyway. Can't wait to fire it up tonight.

Hi. You did well, especially at that price. That's a heavy duty MOTL receiver. I have one also and it does a wonderful job with deep bass, clear highs and warm mids. Congrats! Let us know what you think after putting it thru its paces.

I barely had a chance to look at it when I picked it up, so looking it over again, it appears to be in remarkably good shape for its age. No scratches on the plastic tuner dial, some very minor ones on the metal, a small chip missing in the back on the plastic housing. Looks like little to no dust inside.

Plugged it in and had a mild panic - the volume was extremely low. Thought I got a dud. Messed around a bit, pulled out that very last button (forget what it does) and it suddenly kicked in. Not sure if it was just a coincidence and it had warmed up, because pushing the button back in or pulling it out again does not make a difference.

Finally sat down to listen, and oh man, what a sweet sound! :music: The only problem is a slightly scratchy volume knob, which some Deoxit should hopefully fix. Stayed up too late listening, but it was worth it. :D

Welcome!

Story of my life. I do that pretty often regularly, but especially since I got new speakers and amps/receivers to listen to/swap and compare, I've been staying up until 2 and 3 in the morning. Needless to say, dragging myself out of bed at 7:15 that morning is never very fun :thumbsdn:

Usually on the balance, I think it's worth it too
