Just ordered my first projector

You can usually find some of these on fleabay or at junk shops. Maybe even a bunch of junk car doors to hang them on. Hit youtube up for some old "let's all go to the lobby" promos when it's time to take a break ... ;-}

PS ... if you're looking at alternate uses for projectors, how about a light show? I added a cheepie to my audio system that mirrors the main screen on the HTPC, using MilkDrops as a sound active screensaver. Throw in some helicopter lights and floods and the room sizzles when I crank it.

The SD display of the LED unit is fine for what I'm doing here, but I'm sure I'd be happier upgrading to one with better black and contrast levels, and hopefully a quieter fan. Setup cost about $100 including the HDMI amp and splitter used to drive multiple screens.

That is a cool idea. I checked eBay and it is hard to find a working one that is in decent shape for less than a hundred. I am going with my medium sized Sony Bluetooth next time around to see how it goes. I guess I could get a smallish soundbar if I get desperate. I also have a large, and I mean very large ( see below ), Sony Bluetooth speaker. It has its own lights that would be cool and it has decent bass. Lots of options, I just have to try them out.

In my living room, we like the AppleTV screensavers, though that gets a bit dangerous with a cat in the house. It was showing dolphins and she jumped up on the entertainment center and swiped at it. Luckily, she didn’t damage the screen.

There are a lot of wildlife films on Disney Plus, so we may check some of those out when we are watching outdoors.

Just and update. I got the opportunity to review a small soundbar, so I am going to give it a shot. I haven't opened it yet, but got it in the mail today, so will give it a run this evening.

I love milkdrop! Also, many receivers have dynamic range limiters or dynamic compression. That could help control loud passages in outdoor movies.

True, I am not sure if the receiver I have out there is equipped with that feature, but will look at it when the days start getting shorter.

I am going to go with this mini sound bar next time and see how it goes. It will at least allow us to put the sound right in front of us on a table we have in the area. It is slim in design, so it won’t be in the way. I did try the speaker with Bluetooth today and it sounded okay, but it is a lot louder than the projector’s speakers, so it will definitely be better than last time. I am not even sure why Epson bothered with such crappy speakers in the projector. Would have been better to leave it out and charge less for it,

Back in the house watching movies. The mosquitos have been out of control this year. I think it has something to do with the bird baths my girlfriend brought with her when she moved in. To make matters worse they have found West Nile Virus in this zip code. I read something about being able to buy things to put in the water to kill mosquitos, so I have to look into it for next year. I ordered a Thermacel device that is supposed to repel mosquitos, so may try again next weekend.
