Just Picked Up a Lux R-115

Well, I have found a Luxman R-115 in excellent condition. It comes with the original manual, and both AM/FM antennas.

I also have a Lux R-114 that I want to compare against the R-115. The extra 20 watts per channel, along with the CD direct, should help.

I really like the Luxman equipment from this era. It may not look as flash as the eariler units, but I do think they sound better. I had a R-103 that I gave to a young co-worker who was in need of a music source. It was 90 WPC, and did sound good, but the R-114 was a better sounding unit.

I may keep an eye out for the R-117, which is a really nice receiver if there was ever one.

Its a Luxman weekend!

I picked up an R-117 yesterday from the original owner. They couldn't find the remote though :(

Not a biggie though since my Harmony has the codes.

I'm really surprised at how good this receiver sounds. Possibly as good or better than some of the separates I've had over the years.

Thanks for the feedback gents. Yes, the remote and manual come with the unit. Once I get some time with it, I'll report back.

I think I'll keep my eyes open for a R-117.

Sam is correct on the word getting out on the R-117. Just have to hope not everyone has gotten the memo yet.
 
Initial listening of the R-115 is very impressive. It's smoother than the R-114 (but not by much). It definitely has more power than the 70 wpc suggests.

The CD direct is truly a joy to use, as it makes a immediate improvement when playing back CDs.

The tuner is a real pleasant surprise. It's quite sensitive (as is the R-114), and provides a wide and deep sound stage.

The R-115 still sounds great by today's standards, and makes a lot of the current crop of receivers sound harsh and shrill by comparison. For two channel playback, it's a keeper, and I would put it up against separates in the same power class.

Perhaps we should start a Luxman forum. What do you reckon?

I've heard a ton of receivers and the R-117 ranks in my personal top five. IMO, the R-117 is the best REMOTE CONTROLLED receiver. The R-115 is not too far behind.

I agree with Sam on this. I'll be on the lookout for a R-117 in good shape. also will be keeping the R-115 and R-114 units as well.

I have a LUXMAN R115 arriving soon...just doing doing some PRE search on the thing (I made that word up all on my own, pretty cool I think)...what exactly is the cd direct button for? I will be playing CDs through the thing. PS-My first post!

I like my 115 better than my 117 for some reason that prolly has no explaination. It is just nicer sounding to my ears. Maybe the 117 needs some work?
bot both from orig owners. I gave the 115 some serious symphony workouts from 1995-2000 maybe she 'broke in' better..

I sure hope NOT. I like to read and contribute to luxman threads but I don't want another forum to have to go through. Just put the Luxman threads in the appropriate forums and keep the over population of manufacturer forums to a limit.

If you want all luxman all the time there is the Yahoo Luxman Group.
