Just picked up my Mc275 today, have questions?

Nsgarch -- more complicated than just waking up one day and telling your tube supplier, which you've signed a contract with, for "X" amount of tubes for "X" amount of years that you've found a better tube & therefore, cancelling effective this date.
Of course I know that -- should I have added "as soon as their contract is fulfilled"? Keep in mind however that if McIntosh wanted to go with the 'reissued' GL's they wouldn't be abandoning New Sensor, since New Sensor makes the GL's too

I just picked up my new Mc275mk? it has the 5way binding posts so I'm not sure which version it is, but was wondering what is a good way to get started with the amp? This is my first Tube amp so just looking for some advice about starting up the amp,how long should one let it warm up,anything to do before you power up the unit, anything to watch with the tubes, whats the breakin time for the amp? Thanks for any thoughts, Randy.

I have a MC275 IV (same as your V except for the speaker terminals) that replaced an Audio Research D-115 MK II in my system, which also is all tubes.

The ARC amp has to be on for 60 to 90 minutes before it sounds its best, which is excellent. But since it has nine 6550 tubes, I did not want to run it except for serious listening (I use a SS for other listening.)

The end result of all this is that I never used the ARC - I seldom was able to plan a serious listening session 90 minutes in advance.

The MC275, on the other hand, is ready to go in a couple of minutes and I don't notice a lot of further improvement during operation - maybe a little.

So the MC275 gets used a lot. I like the sound a little better also, but the warmed-up ARC is just about as good sounding.

I have lost two of the small 12AT7 tubes after about 6 months. My dealer replaced 1 for free (even though the tube warranty was over) and charged $20 for the other.

Excellent amp. I agree with others, just sit back and enjoy.

There is a Gold one on the bay, pulling down some serious dough.

Those coming to my place in May will see mine on display. I know, plug it in & fire it up.

Sometimes I wish I could leave the Apple and move to the Nappa Valley:thmbsp:
Do it while you're still young and healthy enough. If you wait too long... remember what happened to Ratso from Midnight Cowboy? :D

I envy you .........one day
Enjoy your McBliss,
Jim

My favorite film of all time!!............years later I worked on the film 'Honky Tonk Freeway'.........directed by the same director.

Have a question about one of the KT-88 tubes on my 275.One tube has a hint of a blue colour in a few small spots about 3/4s the way up the tube. The other 3 are all clear, is this a problem?Randy

The blue shouldn't be a problem. Do a search.

I have an mc240 - all four power tubes have a great blue light show.

Well, I've listened for 2 days now, from Chillipeppers to the Doors, have not bi-amped like I am going to do with the Thresh S-500 on the bottom. My opinion on the 275 is She's a keeper!I will tell you this is coming from a big time ss amp person. Now to be fair the Thresh is still quit good, bottomend really good, topend not quit as good with the 2b's, but when you sit down and want it "complelety" real the 275 shines! It is like the "performers"are in the room with you, and my room is pretty bad for accoustics. There will be more feedback when I do the bi-amp with the Thresh.I'm really impressed with the Mac, and I was ready to bet the farm I wasn't going to be, so there you go.Randy.
