HI all
A few weeks back I mentioned here about having the choice of a Sansui AU-517/TU-717 combo and a Pioneer 1250. Well. just yesterday. I was offered a chance to take the Sansui combo home and try it out. Took it home last night and hooked it up to my Klipsch kg3.5's and I gotta say, WOW!
Clean, clean, Clean! I was worried about it being on the bright side (Klipsch is not known for making laid back sounding speakers!). But no prob there. THe amp is plenty powerful (aided by my 94 db speakers) ANd the tuner is AMAZING. HEre in the sticks where we are, my HK used to give me exactly one station in stereo. This thing pulls in everything. A pleasure to tune. The flywheel must be from a car, it is so smooth. Now admittedly, he adjusted and fine tuned this thing to perfection, but I gotta say Sansui did some good work here.
As I was unhooking the HK, what really struck me was the difference in build quality between it and the Sansui. These Sansui separates (if you can call an Int Amp a separate) are built like the proverbial brick s***house. Don't know how their receivers were, but the quality built into this thing is truly amazing. Can't even imagine what it would cost today.
So I gotta say, so far, so good. Will let you know how things develop!
Erik
