Just purchased a “brand new” Sansui TR-707A. Many of you probably already know this, but it was Sansui’s first transistor receiver! Super cool, looks great, and most importantly it sounds really good!... when it’s working. That’s what brings me here with a question.
I purchased the Sansui today from an licensed repair and vintage shop in my city and was told it had recently been gone through fully for repair. Price was very good considering that the repair price for the Onkyo TX-7000 it replaced was 3x as much. After finally getting it set up I sat back and enjoyed some music before I had to get back to work. Only problem is, when I get home and go to turn it on to play the right channel on the phono and aux inputs isn’t working and the sound coming out of the left is very faint. The tape input is working just fine thank heavens, so I’m playing my sources through that input right now.
But could anyone help me know what’s up? When I purchased it today, it came with a 90 day warranty so I’m going to call the shop tomorrow but I knew checking in with Audio Karma was the best first option. Any thoughts? I’m not sure what’s going on or how to fix it so that the phono and aux inputs come through loud and clear and through both channels. And yes, I’ve already read through the entire service and user manuals.

Dirty switches can cause problems such as this. Try operating the switches while feeding in audio through the AUX inputs. Operate the tape monitor switch , the muting switch and the rotary function and mode switches rapidy a few times each. If you get audio to come through at all, even for a second, then the switches and controls need to have deoxit applied to clean the contacts internal.

Awesome, thank you. I’ll try that out first and get some deoxit.
 
Thanks for the help y’all, I got the problem figured out today... kinda embarrassing but the real problem was that I was running a signal through the “rec” input which was messing up other input signal paths. Also I forgot to switch off the tape monitoring switch. All is well now, though! And man does that Sansui sound good!
 
Nice you got a plug and play unit. I've read about very few that are working right. Most people report they sound very good but have one problem or another, and need work. Mine came to me with no detectable problems, and sounds wonderful.
