Just re-capped KLH Sixes

This afternoon I recapped a pair of Sixes I purchased at an estate sale about a year ago. I've recapped Original Large Advent and AR-2ax speakers, but neither job made as much of a difference as new caps on these sixes. Until now I had really favored the ARs but, now I'm not so sure. I've also not yet pulled such cheap looking capacitors from a crossover before. See the pics. I replaced with two, 2 uF and one 8.2 uF Dayton for each crossover.

The high end improvement is more than I expected. If you have a pair of Sixes and have not yet changed the capacitors you should do so without delay.

seems like every KLH I recap has those same caps! I run 6s and 17s, all recapped and woofer redoped, and they are one fine speaker!!

Yeah, I was really surprised. I gave my sister in law a pair of 17s. I think I'll swap them out for her and recap them too.

Yup, KLH's of the era are known to have these crappy caps. Luckily, bringing back these classics is pretty easy to do.
Glad you are enjoying these iconic speakers. Hopefully you also resealed the woofer surrounds, which really helps bring back the bass extension these are capable of.

Yes I had done that last year with the sealant from the AR guys on EBay. I think these are a nice looking original pair. I've also reattached the speaker badge. I'm still considering new grill fabric as the originals are not wife approved.
