Just scored a Marantz 510M

I think I did pretty good albeit a bit of a gamble.
This baby was on eBay/Goodwill and local pick up only in Seattle.
It's about a 3 hr drive to go get it but it appears to be in working condition.
With sales tax included I paid $601.10,how did I do?

This is from the eBay description:
Used, donated item in fair physical condition. No visible damage or missing parts. Some dust, residue and signs of use are present. Please see photos for condition details and completeness.
Unit was plugged in and briefly tested. Display lights up and sound output good during testing. Not extensively tested, history, full functionality and longevity are unknown. As such, it is being sold as is for parts or repair only.

I'll take it to my local tech to have it serviced before I even hook it up but I have high hopes for this monster.
It was a roll of the dice of course but the prices I've seen them going for leaves quite a bit of wiggle room if it needs some work.
256 wpc! I plan on using my old (recently serviced) 2240 as a tuner pre-amp,thoughts?
This will pretty much complete my Marantz system that also includes a 6100 TT and 5010B cassette deck.
Listening through Klipschorns.

I had a 510M for a brief time years ago. You should find a copy of the owners manual and read the part about using fuses in-line with your speakers - Chris

Thanks,I'll look into that,I was planing to get my hands on an owners manual.
I'm pretty sure my K-horns have inline fuses already.

GREAT score!!!! Keep us informed once you hook it up and give it a listen.

Any thoughts on having it professionally restored. It would be recommended to have it done soon considering it could get costly if it blows. If you're local guy rebuilds Marantz's then you're in luck. If he's not familiar with them then DO send it out.

You did well... the Seattle Goodwill has done well by me too
Thanks,I thought I did pretty well too. There was also a Marantz 500 there with the auction ending at the exact same time,it went for $1300 and I'd imagine siphoned away some of the bidders from this one which probably helped me win this one.

Thanks,I dropped it off with my guy before I did anything with it,never even plugged it in.
I told him give it whatever it needs, his words were there are no shortcuts with this one and I was like yeah this is a keeper.
I found him (The Speaker Magnate guy) through Audiokarma forums and he came highly recommended,he's worked on my other gear including my 2240.

You did very well. You could get a cosmetically challenged 510 (non-meter) and swap the amp sections. It's very easy to swap the parts. You would still be way ahead even if you did not sell the 510.

Hopefully all it needs is a good cleaning service and recapped,it was tested and produced sound according to GW.

Just scored this 3200 pre-amp to go with the 510M,should be a nice combo.
From the ad:
"Mint in box 1976-77 Marantz Control Preamplifier. Not one scratch or blemish anywhere. Used for less than 1 hour to demo/test. This unit is perfect. Images show unit with the plastic shield in place. Comes in original box in the original styrofoam inner box."
I gave good money for it at $495 but it was a rare find in new old stock condition so IMHO worth it.
Now all I need is to find a nice tuner to match.

Wow!

Have acquired a 510M + 3800 + 125 and excited to have the opportunity to own these. Although I was able to find Owner's Manuals for the 3800 & 125, the 510M Owner's Manual seems to be unobtainable. Yes, first place I usually can depend on finding such info is hifiengine, but, only the Service Manual available. Any of you Marantz fans know where another Marantz fan might find the OM? Thanks in advance.
