Beautiful Sony DD, I know I had a PS-X500 for many years and not a fault/problem. Go to Vinyl Engine for a copy of the owners manual which will show how to set up the table and adjust the drop point. The Ortofon VMS 30Mk2 is a VERY nice cartridge, replacement stylus may still be available and if they are they arn't cheap but indicate how good of a cartridge it is. Another option is having SoundSmith retip the stylus, the OM10 isn't in the same league as the VMS 30Mk2 which is a big step up. For me the Biotracer arm worked excellent and was highly reliable.

Fantastic turntable. I scored one last week and am loving it. The Biotracer is a marvel of engineering, and the deck is built like a tank.

For carts, I'm currently running a Grado Red1, which actually sounds very good, especially on jazz. Still a pain in the ass to install correctly to minimize IGD, though. I'm tempted to get an 8mz stylus, but we'll see. I also used a Shure M91ED, which was also much better than on previous s-shaped aluminum tonearms. I'd consider a Jico stylus, but the cart's sound is a little dry and scratchy, and my ears prefer the MC sound. But it's impressive to see the Biotracer push these budget carts so well.

Personally, I think these Sony decks are masterful, an early 1980s peak of turntable design. Testing carts with a Test LP is now a mere formality; passing all tests is practically a given (except for the "torture" track, which can nearly be defeated). The only downside to the PS-X600 is the lack of VTA tuning, but I think I'll manage.

Now my only challenge is finding the right cartridge. I originally wanted the Dyna 10x5, but maybe i'll save for a Grado Sonata? I might get the 8mz stylus fir the Red, but I dunno. Sarah Vaughn is heavenly, but Led Zeppelin II is bloated and distorted. If the Biotracer could fatten the Denon DL-110, that would be a solid choice. Or maybe an AT150mlx? Or a $1000 Moving Coil? Basically, we can run any cart on this puppy. We've got the keys to a Ferrari.

It is very clean sounding

If I defeat the subsonic filter there is far less woofer pumping than let's say the OM10 on a Technics 1200

There is a bit of woofer motion but kind of slower ...

I have not heard this table since I was I teenager (new in a store )

When in zero balanced mode the bearing are so smooth and little friction even after all those years

And I found it in a PAwn Shop !
