Just Scored Scott 340B!!!

I picked up Scott 340B tube FM receiver. In side of receiver is looking virgin but it lost 2 selector switch knobs and has a broken power switch. It has ALL Original Tubes!!! OP tubes are clean and no black marks. I am planing to restore to its glory days. I do not think I can just call Scott to order knobs and a switch. Where can I get the replacements besides Ebay? I would like to know how restoration pros deal with this. Do I need to replace all white caps and dull looking gum ball drop caps(0.05uf 400v) besides all electrolytics? What is the best procedure or odder of things need to be done before powering her up? I am having hard time keeping my itchy hands from plug in the receiver to power up.

SOS: Oops wrong post, Moderator please move my post to Tube

I got Variac but I do not want to power her up until I replace all caps first. It will take a week to get the coupling caps.

Wow, that is nice. I have seen a guy on Youtube who takes apart the large can caps, heats them up with a heat gun to loosen up the tar. and then gets the caps out, and just re stuffs them with new caps. sure it is more work, but it seems at least for the looks worth it. you can either tape the new caps inside the can so they don't move, or you can use hot glue, which is a lot easier to work with then Tar. they even make black hot glue sticks for an authentic look.

Antique Electronic Supply has knobs that will fit. Go to www.tubesandmore.com and search for part number P-K340

Regarding the power switch- if it's a simple slide switch look at part P-H35-242 at the same website. The color might be off but it will probably fit.

The 340B is a nice unit. I currently have a 340A in my "queue" to redo when the weather warms up and I get back in the mood to do something creative rather than staring into space listening to 45's.

Hi,

That one looks unmolested. Has it's original cerecaps and everything. You can get parts at Antique Electronic Supply as well as at Triode Electronics. That receiver needs it's power supply caps replaced, the bias power supply rebuilt totally, all coupling capacitors replaced and all plate feed resistors replaced. This is a basic rebuild and will generally new you a good reliable working receiver. There could be other issues in the tuner or MPX sections as well as some bad tubes, but this is the minimum you should do to make the thing work correctly and reliable. You may have to be a little creative with respect to the power supply capacitors. But, once done, the receiver should perform really well. I had a 340B years ago and it was a very nice receiver. My present 340 series receiver is the old one with the round tuning dial / knob. That thing sounds quite good. I did spend a bit extra and loaded it with Auricap coupling capacitors. You really don't need to do that or got o quite that much expense to get a very respectable sound quality out of the 340B..
You have your work cut out for you! But the payoff will be worth it.
