JVC AX-1100 Integrated Amplifier

I recently purchased this on Ebay. I have not yet tried it but hope to do so this weekend. I am wondering if anyone out there has a manual for it or can tell me where to get one.


Looks impressive and I hope that the perfomance will match the looks. I have A JVC RX-1010V SuperDigine Receiver with an outstanding sound output (infact better than anything I've heard):thmbsp:.

Maybe other AK members can share their impressions of JVC gear.

The matching tuner, FX-1100, is a great one. Very well regarded and sought after, though they can be picked up for a reasonable price. Recommended for sound and reception.
 
I used to have one of their receivers in the 70's. Forget which model it was. Remember it had blue lights and power meters... I always liked their built-in equalizers....
 
I have an AX-R551 integrated from around 1990. Its a 2 channel amp with the S.E.A.'s EQ. I got it in exchange for a Kenny that was very sick. To be honest, I was disapointed when they handed me the JVC. But after hooking it up, I was very impressed. Sounds great and at 100wpc, it can rock my DLK/2's very nicely. I'm a JVC convert :)
 
Would love to see some pics of this machine when it gets to you. Seems that the last "vintage" vein that hasn't been minde to death is the 80s TOTL Japanese stuff. I see it all the time with Kenwood, where their best 2-channel Black-faced gear sells for pennies while some midline 70s silver stuff goes for MUCH more.
 
Wow, interesting how much it looks like the contemporary Kenwood TOTL integrateds--the KA-1100D and KA-3300D. Think there was any corporate rivalry there???
 
2 were on E-BAY a couple of weeks ago but I gave them a pass but looking back I regret having done so. I will be on the lookout just incase.
 
I bought this amplifier 2 days ago in a garage sale, and I`m really impressed with the sound,
I know JVC is not well regarded here, but this unit is built as a tank, no plastic inside, maybe only the buttons and switches,
Everything seems to work for now, with good detail and very good lows, (playing MA Mezzanine was like listening to a new album..)
Inside was very dusty but I see no blown caps, there is a layer of dust sticked on the board, I can remove it with a wet cloth, but is it safe to do so, or should I leave it there? (see the pic)
Also there is a burning smell from the amplifier when is on, like with the new electronic stuf, is this normal? since this is 20 years old,

There are randomly some cracking and noises on the right channel, last 6 to 10 seconds than everything ok again, they dont seem to relate with turning the volume knob, but I dont know if some Deoxit treatment can cure it,
I can do the cleaning but not replacing transistors or reading schematics,

Please, any advice, cause i can still switch it with smth else :scratch2:
 
Give the amplifier a very thorough cleaning. I personally like that "canned air" and perhaps a very light-bristled brush. Gotta be careful cleaning with a cloth, as it's very easy to apply a bit too much pressure and start breaking components right off the board. Once you've done a good general cleaning, you might want to give all the knobs and switches a good spray with Deoxit.

Check out the various "sticky" posts in the DIY section on how do do this properly without damaging the amplifier.

I wouldn't say that JVC is not well regarded here. Maybe overlooked, that is all. They built some fine stuff, and I would love to put some in my stable, if the opportunity ever presented itself.
 
There is a lady [or guy] on UK eBay [but located in Spokane, WA!] selling some. PM 'under-way'.

there is a switch in the back Fixed Input/Variable Input,
does it mean I can use it as Power Amplifer?
