JVC does not get much respect

JVC has made some great gear. But like most of the major brands' quality, that was a thing of the past. I have some pieces that were the cream of the crop in it's time.(Portable audio anyway.....:D)

JVC's made some of the best boomboxes hands down. in the words of LL, "I can't live without my radio!"

Hello jvc_graz,

I enjoy all the info you post up on the JVC gear. I have a come to own a few vintage and more modern components over the years by them. Including some late model A/V Receivers, TVs and probably the best VCR I've ever owned, an HR-S9800U.

On the vintage side I currently have the following:

Integrated Amplifiers - JA-S71 • VN-900 • VN-700
Power Amplifiers - MST-1000
Preamplifier - PST-1000
Tuners - JT-V71

BTW, what would be a good match tuner wise for the early JVC/Nivico 1000's I have?

Someday I'd love to come across their Laboratory Series!

Regards,
TB

If anyone doubted that the company was not a serious audio company at one time, the site seems to provide evidence to the contrary. I can't read a word of it but that SE80 could earn a spot in my main system easily just of looks. Most of the interior shots of the equalizers make my Soundcraftsman look almost like a homebrew.

I only have one peice of JVC gear and it is an AX-5 amp. I have it in the bedroom hooked up to a Dual TT and a Sony blue-ray player, and it totally rocks I love the silver face, it looks like it means business.

IMHO, my PC-55 (and my Sony FH-7) represent the pinnacle of portable development. I'd love to have one with the original door sticker like your PC-11. HK-9000 back there?

I have a few JVC pieces,

a JVC JL-F30 Automatic Turntable Belt Drive,

a JVC XL-M405 Mult 6 disc CD Auto Changer and

a JVC TD-W209 Dual Cassette Deck (1 Reversing).

All seem well built and perform very well. I hardly ever see any comments on JVC components.

Anybody else had good experiences with JVC?

Charlie

JVC made those awesome 4VR-5446 quadrophonic recievers in the late 70's. My friends father had one, we used to give it a real thrashing, it was a great performer, they also had the matching quad headphones too..........yeah very underated.

i agree...once you add the sea-80 to a system...its hard to go back to having no eq at all... they not only look good..they sound excellent.
the later sea-70 is also well worth a look..

I have an acoustic-suspension compact speaker system by JVC and highly evaluate it. Its enclosure is aluminium and speaker unit is hermetically fixed on it. No air pressure leakage is allowed. It's an mid-70s model, which I obtained at second hand for $30 a pair. It weighs a lot for its size and sounds very tight in bass freq. I will probally never let this set go for decades henceforward.

I have a JVC XL-F106,5 disc changer that I have been having for quite a while and have never had any problems from it and the sound is great.

Hi Guys
I a JVC FX 535L FM stereo tuner which has been mothballed for some time, I am considering running it in a system I am making up for my son, it is operating without any problems. at the moment. Question! has anybody out there had experience of this unit, what does it sound like and is it worth having it serviced (and any tweaks worth doing )and is there any residual value? All info gratefully recieved.

You mean, THIS kinda respect??

My college roommate in the mid 70's. owned a JVC integrated amp.
It was a total lemon for him since Day 1.
Repeatedly in and out of repair shops, he finally lost his patience................

......and tossed it up against the dorm room's cinder block wall.

Steve :sigh: :nono:

to repair hifi equipment was a problem in the past and is a problem in the present. the maintenance and repair requires time and love.. ;) to have both is rare. to make money and to be quick is the keyword.
BUT- here in europa we have a few very good service-based traider- like "armin777" (http://www.good-old-hifi.de/reparaturen/reparaturen.shtml) or CAS aso.

but let's talk about Hif- not about problems with maintenance and repair ;)

here is an update to jvc/victor's laboratory:

Very nice equip you have there, OP!

I am always looking for a BN-5 Biphonic Processor to add to my collection & had a lead on one, but the seller was in the UK. I think shipping would have been a bit much.

I recently got myself a JVC JA-S44. Sounds great even through my poor speakers, everything works on it despite being 30 years old. I also have two old jvc vhs players, one from the 80's and one from '99. The 1980s one outlasted the '99 one by miles...
