Can't remember if I posted here already but I have a JVC boombox, got in year '85 or so, maybe '90. I still use it in the garage today. This thing has been all over the world with me. It 'still' sounds simply amazing. Lifelike. Real.

The CD player works when it wants too. It will work for 5 CDs, then it wants to take a break! LOL That's ok, it's earned it's keep. I use it mostly for the radio now.

Just amazing 'sound'. Really wish I had an NOS one. Best boombox I ever heard. JVC made some amazing sounding equipment.

Some of their mini systems are really decent. Not audiophile level, but for their size they put out reasonable sound. I bought the model featured in iRobot and Vanilla Sky; the FS-SD1000. This has really small cylindrical speakers with (micro tweeters and tiny mids)... totally bass shy, which is why it comes with a powered subwoofer that fills in the gap.

The VS-DT2000 was based on the same speaker setup, but with slightly more wattage and no fragile CD door:

Later on, I managed to pick up just the DT2000 head unit alone for little $$ and so I'm using that in place of the SD1000 head unit (stowed away in case the DT2000 suffers a problem).

JVC has made some decent gear over the years, but I really feel they missed the mark by not making an "elite" model line marketed the way Pioneer did.

I bought a JVC DVD player brand new back in 2001. I gave it to my parents about a year ago when I bought a region free Pioneer one. It's still working today, even though they had 2 other brand ones die during the 8 years I used the JVC, and 1 of the 2 was the same price as the JVC.

I stumbled upon a nice JVC SR201 in working condition, lights were out so no cool blue glow but I'll e fixing that this week. It's a very nice sounding little unit.

I remember seeing these things when they were new and I have to admit I was not a fan of the styling at the time but now I think they look kind of cool!

Yep, motorized volume control too, when changed from the remote. It's a cool little system. I'll admit I'm guilty of never setting the clock, tho. :D Speaker cabs are made from solid Cherry wood, not veneer!

I have the almost exact same real cherrywood speakers on my FS-2000 system, except my cones are paper. Very good quality unit with subwoofer out and optical digital output

pic is not mine, just took it from ebay:D

I had a friend back in the early to mid 80's who had a pair of JVC SP-333 speakers. From what I remember about them they were pretty good.

This is what they looked like.

drool ^^^^^

I've come across several 90s components that were decent. Nothing special but better than others form the same time frame.

It's the silvery stuff with orange lights. I've had two of the double cassettes. Both were good. Working when found and performed well. Now I've found a similarly styled, but black integrated amp and it's taken up rec room duties. Absolutely nothing to crow about, but solid stuff that works well. I sell on the better stuff so keeping units that work but were cheap to aquire makes great sense. And for this I look for that ignored JVC stuff.

There are some groovy looking SP-7's for sale in my area right now. I have not seen that type of JVC speaker before.

My 4VR5446 here, its a great little amp, everything works on it, its my dining room system......listen to the tuner in the mornings......

The G-9000 is back in the lounge now.....the JVC has pushed it out, I reckon the tuner sounds a bit sweeter then the 9000 tuner to be honest.....

My friends father had one of these, we used to thrash it after school before his father got home, we wernt allowed to use it unsupervised.....:D but of course we knew better....:scratch2:
I always vowed I would get one of these at some stage on my life....and there it is!!!

Just like every Japanese audio company of that time period, they made some outstanding gear along with crap that I wouldn't want even if it was free.

I've not found bad sounding 70's JVC gear to date, actually the reason I even like JVC is because I found a bottom of the line VN-300 amp, it sounded great! lacking in a bit of base, but other than that is was a nice sounding and fantastic looking bit of gear ;)
