JVC does not get much respect

I'm enjoying some little 3 1/2'' JVC speakers (came with those micro sets in the 90's) powered by a fussy Topping TP60 that craps out from time to time, and source is a recent find, a JVC XL-V550 I got at the E-waste event a month ago.

CD player was face down, in a mess of other stuff. Both belts were gone, and I had to disassemble and clean, relube, and dig through my belt supply. Only had a single belt, but took one of the originals, boiled in water for 40 seconds, and it's good as new.

The sound is sublime for a tiny woofer (with back to wall to help) and a 1987 cd player that many would say is no good.

My aching ass, I say. JVC gets my love.

Wish I still had my JVC CD boombox. That was one great-sounding unit. It sounded seriously wonderful, deep, and loud!

Just wore it out.

Sis had that model. Some 3d mega bass button that activated this hidden sub. Amazing little unit.

JVC was like Sony, because when they cared, it usually meant amazeballs.

Hello everyone!
I grew up on JVC in the 70's.and 80's.
I think they are just as good as any of the other brands at the time, but what did I know,
I was a teenager back then and wasn't allowed to touch the stereo when my brother was gone.
Of course, as soon as he left, me and the neighbor friends would gather and smoke some of that original Skunk
and jam out to Pink Floyd, Van Halen or Lynyrd Skynyrd, or Blackfoot.
But, as soon as he got home, as he walked past, he would stick his hand out and feel the back of the stereo and catch us every time. lol
Those were the best times to be alive. lol
Well, he passed away in 2020 and his collection came to me.
Marantz, but mostly, JVC and Bose speakers 201's 301's 501's and 901's Sansui XP750's
Everything is around 77'78' and early 80's. Some of it works and some of it don't.
So, I have a big task on my hands to restore a lot of it. The speakers are done, except for 3 sets of 901's.
I figure I am gonna be hanging around here in the near future for some "sound" advice. lol
I have an easy one for you today.
It's about those STK's in the JA-S22 and S44 power boards.
The boards seem to be identical. There's no reason I can't use the STK0050's in the S22's, right?
S22 has 27 volt transformer and the S44 is 36v?
Is that gonna be a problem? I have 2 or 3 sets of the original STK0050's he had purchased years ago, but no 40's and I have 2 of the S22's.
I don't want to start out on the wrong foot.
It's nice to meet you all.
And thanks for any advice a head of time.l ol

Hello, and welcome! We are glad to have you.

On that JA-S22 (great little integrated, had one myself) you'd do better to start a separate thread about it.

The technical brain trust here can walk you through most anything.

Best of luck!

I tossed that STK question in there, didn't I? lol
I found the answer, I will start a thread if I need help.
Been trying to understand how these things work for a couple years.
So far, I've learned what not to do. lol
Lights on, is always a good sign until they don't.

Hello I have posted before but have my original rx-707 receiver from the early 90s. I actually sold it to a friend and bought it back for 50 bucks. My friend said he wish he still had it. I’ve added a cd player z1010 years ago. I picked up an almost brand new in the box cassete deck td-w309 about 4 years ago box and all. Over the years it started squealing so I took it in to get repaired. They replaced belts and lubed the motor. Cleaned everything now it’s sounding great for years to come.IMG_8133.jpegIMG_8137.jpegIMG_8134.jpegIMG_8136.jpeg

I still have my "Battleship Gray Series" RX-R73, XL- V114 CD player, and the TD W317 I bought around 95'? The only stereo system I've used, untill recent years.
They do need serviced after 30 years. I used it a lot and it took a beating for the first 15. I got my money's worth out it.
JVC was a "workhorse" in its heyday.
Shoot, even JCPenney made stereos to compete in the stereo wars.
I have one. MCS 3245
It's built pretty decent, 350 watts, 3 pair speaker inputs.

Nice, the XL-Z1010 was one of their TOTL CD players for the time.

So I got this NOS JVC desk sign today. It looks brand new. Not sure how old it is maybe 90s. Unfortunately the buib inside doesn’t work. Still has the tape inside to hold the builb in place. Still looks cool . It’s much larger than I thought also. IMG_8204.jpegIMG_8206.jpeg

I don't know what came over me today, maybe it was the desire to look under his skirt, and since I couldn't find any photos of his insides on the internet (including the Japanese part), I won this lot (and the corresponding preamp) :)

sorry I don't know why this text is bold and how to remove it….

I have one of these in the closet. I guess it was the top of their line back in the day. 50WPC x 4 or 100 WPC x 2.

Such a beautiful machine...4vr 5456x, right? I'm a quaddie, and the only thing that would make me ditch my Realistic QTA 770 would be a good deal on this puppy. All the quadraphonic decoders built in, easy to switch to stereo and with the two equalizers...just bomb.
I see them come up for a reasonable price every once in a while, but the other day a guy posted one for $140 ($100 US) with the original manual, and the schematics! ...it was gone by the time the guy answered me. Today, two days later it's posted for $600 ($430 US) . To really make it hurt, the first guy was selling his dad's beloved gear, cause he has dementia and they need the money. I would'a happily given him $300 ($215 US)...they will usually sell for about $400 around here ($290 US)
This is a great example of underrated JVC
