JVC DVD Cinema System TH-R3 wont registre Optical Cable

I've recently bought a Chromecast: Audio to connect my JVC so I could play music with the use of Spotify or other digital music applications. I then discovered that connecting it to the JVC was not possible with the cables shipped with it, so I decided to buy a 3.5mm.minijack-optical converter, so I could connect it to the JVC. The connection worked fine and everything seems to be working. The only problem I have is that I can't manage to switch the channel on the JVC to register the Optical cable. So even though it is connected I cant manage to figure out how it would play from the optical cable. Does anyone know a solution?

I would take your time and go through JVC's manual and see what you can figure out.

If it is anything like many other type of AV receivers, you will need to go through the setup to be sure the physical input you are trying to use is assigned to one of the source selections.
