I have a JVC turntable model L-A31 with a Shure RXT5 cartridge. I want to play a 1944 78 rpm record but need a 78 rpm cartridge. I've found nothing in the forum specifically about that. Any suggestions of a cartridge that can be used with the L-A31 and places I might find them? Thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry, I should have noted that I would record the 78 at the 45 speed then use Audacity to bring the speed and pitch up to 78. I need a 78 cartridge for playing the 78 record.
It is not right turntable for 78rpm. How you imagine to achieve tracking force 4-5g required for about all modern 78rpm styluses? Even for Technics SL-1200 you need additional 2g. weight on headshell. And tonearm is incompatible. I advice to get at least turntable with universal mount first. And keep in mind, if you record from 45rpm you can not use corrector (there are many standards for 78rpm, some close to RIAA, some not), but you still need phono preamp. After digitizing and speed correction you need to apply correct eq curve. But if about cartridge, there are many manufacturers including Ortofon. Commonly it is simply 78rpm stylus for particular cartridge.

However Ortofon claims "Excellent tracking at the recommended 1.8 g" for 2MR78.
I have no opinion about those cartridges, I prefer Grado Prestige and Stanton 881 with 78RPM styluses and use them with 4g VTF.
These are all good issues. However, I should have explained that what I want to do is for one, poor-quality record only, not a series of records. The record is one that my mom recorded as a girl in an apparent home recording arrangement; I don't know the details. In any case, my goal is to get my mom's voice recorded digitally so I can send it to several relatives. As you can see, I don't need to worry about all the technical parameters. I need something quick, simple and cheap for a one-time effort. Thanks.
Better find someone who can professionally digitize it for you and not damage record. Someone who can choose right stylus too and who knows what he is doing. Those old records are fragile.
