JVC QL-Y3F Problems

Earlier this week I took delivery of a JVC QL-Y3F. It works fine in manual mode but the automatic features are none functioning. Pressing the up/down button lifts the arm but will not lower it. Pressing start/stop button causes the arm to randomly move left and right a by approx. 1 cm (or just does nothing). Although it's not a big deal and I am still able to play records, it would nice to get it working as it should. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the problems and how to fix it? Could a bit of switch cleaner fix it or something more invasive?
