JVC R-S33 weak right channel

My first AK post! I just cleaned up this JVC. Replaces the tuner lights and re-veneered the wood panels. It would sound great except the right channel is significantly lower than the left.

If I fade the balance about 3/4 towards the right channel, it evens out.

I de-oxed the buttons and sliders. Was wondering if there was something else I might look at before opening it up again and trying to replace capacitors.
Thanks for your advice!

Is this only on the AM/FM? If on all inputs, like a CD or phono, then we should move this to the solid state forum.

Do you have a separate amp or receiver with MAIN IN inputs? If your unit works the same as my R-X40, you can use the REC OUT jacks and use the SEA REC switch to basically get the pre amp output at the REC jacks. This includes the volume control. IIRC. If the 2 channels are in balance there, you have eliminated all up to that point. Do you have access to a scope, meter, etc?

I would also concentrate on the TAPE MONITOR and SEA REC switches. Work them about 50 times to see if anything improves. Are you sure you got Deoxit in there. Maybe they are sealed pretty tight.

Looking at the (blurry) schematic, you could input a signal at R701 / R702 that would bypass the whole preamp / SEA section to narrow down where you are losing signal. Be careful this is after the volume control and you have full amp power!

You could also check a signal at those points to see if they are equal.

Not sure if that receiver has a RELAY, if that's the case, maybe it has some corrosion on the channel that's not working properly, it happened to me on every vintage amp/receiver I buy, I ended up replacing relays on all of them, cleaning, deoxing, etc... just worked for a couple of months and the the resistance between the contacts gets high again.

Thanks for the ideas! I hooked up a headphone amp I had and here's what I got:
- Regular recording output was balanced
- SEA Rec output was unbalanced--especially when I played around with the SEA EQ levels.

Overall, I've noticed that when I zero out all the SEA EQ levels, the balance is fairly normal. But EQing then only seems to affect one channel (the left channel).

They are sealed pretty tight--and hard to access from the inside of the unit. I opened it up and worked it a bit without success. But am going to retry. I've noticed that the unbalanced issue becomes more noticeable when I play around with the SEA EQ--like the Equalizer is only affecting one channel.
