JVC R S77 help

So I just picked up the JVC R S77 amplifier I've always heard good things about it and wanted to hear it for myself.
I turn it on and everything lights up, all buttons work but I'm not getting any sound and the green LED watt meters are also dark.
Opened it up, cleaned the boards, deoxed all contacts, checked fuses, switched between several inputs including the tuner and visually looked for burned components. Didn't find anything unusual. Everything looks good.
I'm not able to read schematics, so that's where my skill level ends.
The service manual mentions an amp relay that's supposed to audibly click on several seconds after the power button is pressed. I'm not hearing any clicks.
If anyone has ideas that I can try before I take it to the shop, it would be greatly appreciated.

If the speaker protection relay is not clicking, the receiver is broken. Could be blown output transistors, the relay circuit or just about anything. You cannot usually see failed components unless it was a dramatic failure.

Long shot - but try tightening mounting screws on amplifier boards. They use a star grounding scheme, and all the grounds go through one screw to the chassis. If that screw is loose or corroded, bad grounding will cause DC in the output and no relay. If you find one that cures it, loosen it, treat it with contact cleaner or de-oxit and retighten it. Once you get it singing, you will be a happy camper!
These were the TOTL receiver in 1980. I've owned mine since new and it still works perfectly, though it's taking a break as I've moved up the JVC food chain!

I have just purchased one from eBay, I wasn't expecting much as it was cheap and looked filthy, But when it arrived I plugged it into my bedroom system and apart from some scratchy sliders, it works ok, I have spent all day working on it, first I stripped it down and inspected all the caps " after removing the layer of dust and dirt from the circuit board" them gave the silver case and light sanding and resprayed it, while that was drying I stripped off the front panel and relubricated and cleaned all the switches and sliders, and looked for any dodgy solder joints " this the silver European model, not the one with the wooden sides" I like this one as it has a voltage selector on the rear and I think it looks better,
It is all finished and reassembled and sounds great if I remember these tend to get hot so I have ordered a computer fan that I will fit inside the case, I did this before on an old NAD amp and it worked a treat, remember to get a silent running one.
