JVC R X300 viewing angles on the LCd

Hello,
First time poster here. I was able to get JVC R X300 with a turntable for cheap at a garage sale and I love it, has some flaws in sound quality but it’s so much fun to listen to!

Biggest problem with the unit I have is that LCD is unreadable unless you stare directly at it. I have the receiver on a stand that’s about 4 feet tall and unless I squat there’s no way to see what’s on the screen, see attached pictures.


Is there anything that can be done to improve vertical viewing angles on this unit?

Unfortunately, the narrow viewing angle is a function of the design limitations of an LCD display, at least in the era these were made. LCD TV technology has led to that being largely overcome now, but that display in the RX-300 is just an ordinary late 80's backlit LCD panel. As it was custom made for the application, there is nothing else to use in its place.

I had a RX-305TN years ago, it used a VFD display with an orange filter so it showed amber and red in the display. It had much better viewability than the LCD, likely why they made the change. Was a decent unit that I enjoyed until I went fully to vintage gear in 1996. The unique "titanium" finish on that line of components didn't wear so well, either.
 
Looks like it's between shelves on a stand...you could try putting some sort of riser under the front feet to tilt the face upwards which might make it easier to view. However, you don't want to restrict air flow which might result in overheating.
I have a receiver that uses displays which are very hard to see unless it's right at my eye level.
So I put it at eye level.
