Yea, I am surprised at the sound quality of this unit, packs quite a punch but stays clean and clear. The phono section could be better, but otherwise the amp section is solid. cheers

I just found one at the thrift, $30 not cheap IMO for a 3rd down from the top 20+ yr old receiver. :sigh: But she plays like a champ and is in 8/10 cosmetic condition and 10/10 working condition. No remote of coarse, thats what harmoneys are for. :yes:
Only major disappointment is the SEA spectrum analyzer doesn't show a movement to the music, it just sits there like a dumb sh*t showing the current equalizer settings. Nothing broken it just unfortunate that this feature is disabled to make it more known to the buyer that you cheaped out on the 7v and could only afford the 5v.
It's got 2 pill bottle size caps in it and 60w/channel. This is early/mid 80's era and is the last or second to last generation of JVC's cool stuff. By the time they went to the kinda pewter colour,
is all I can say.

I have the JVC RX 9V, which was the x-V series TOTL unit. It is a underrated 100 watts per channel and has a clean, transparent sound. It can't displace my Onkyo Integra A807, but it is no slouch by any means and is the only gear I have that can make my HPM 40's sound decent.

I know I'm resurrecting an ancient thread..but I had to chime in. I love the 70's to mid '80's JVC equipment!
I had a silver faced RX-500 receiver...and a couple of years later I upgraded to the RX-750B. The 750 was and still is one of the best receivers I've had the pleasure of owning.
I also had the TD-V66 cassette and the XL-M500 CD changer as well. And these were a perfect match for the Cerwin Vega D-7's I owned.
But then surround sound came along and I went down the dark path...I wandered from receiver to receiver trying to get that same type of sound in a multi-channel receiver. But it wasn't to be.
So about 4 months ago I decided I wanted to get back into analog recordings and bought a SL-D202 turntable. I hooked it up to my Onkyo 809 and man was I disappointed. Then I stumbled upon this site while searching for some vintage receivers, speakers, etc...and I'm again hooked. This site has so much to offer for an old guy like myself.
I purchased an R-S7 receiver around 3 months ago...hooked up my turntable and it sounded a lot better. But it was still missing something. So I finally found a pair of Cerwin Vega D-7's not to far from where I live in great condition.
I purchased them, hooked them up and man...it was like being re-born again.
So I found a great JVC RS-77 and purchased it...hooked it up and was amazed again!
So now I'm a confessed, full fledged vintage stereo junky...and I can't get enough.
My next purchase should be delivered tomorrow...a JVC J-F30 turntable.
And my search for the elusive RX-750 goes on...

It's great to see so many positive comments regarding JVC gear. It's often overlooked, great for those in the know, outstanding sonically and built like tanks. As my signature shows, I'm a big JVC fan. We've had JVC gear in the family since 1968, my Dad's system, 5003 receiver, GB-1Eomni directional speakers, still working fine. The TT belt is toast and hasn't been used in years though.
In general JVC gear runs warm to hot. My R-S77 has run hot new out of the box since 1980. My daughter's R-S33 runs hot. When these were designed, obviously the engineers knew this and built them to last and perform well.
My A-X9 was just serviced and now runs nice and warm, not hot like it use to.

in my opinion jvc has done very good audio gear , i have his cousin RX550V plus KD-V66 3head deck from this family , both sound amazing , i really like them ..........receiver has lcd display lighted from behind by lightbulbs , 7 band eq with his own display , unfortunatelly bars are fixed not spectrum style, i had a heating issue with 4 little transistors-2sa1666 mounted on tiny heatsinks they work as power stabilizers i think, after hours of listening cover was really hot , solution was a cooler fan 6x6 cm mounted nearby his job is to recirculate inside air without any major dust , now it run for hours with a little warm ......JVC has done a little trick with their amps , they put SEA EQ wich improves sound quality a lot especially on budget speakers , especially when your room or speakers position dont help u to get best frecvency response, that is why most their amps sound good in almost any condition.

I bought a JVC RX-5V through the List of Craig for fifty bucks. It sputtered for a couple of weeks and then snapped out of it. I was listening to some music on my office system this morning using this unit, and was just STUNNED at how good it sounded. I actually toyed with the idea of moving to my main system.

I really like my JVC herd. Mostly they’re the lower wattage units but they have a sound I just like with the right speakers. My A-X1 Super A is a slugger for a 30wpc. The R-S5 is just a nice sounding little receiver. And the JR-S201 is just cool.
