JVC VL-5 pulley adjustment

Hi, I bought a JVC VL-5 for my wife's birthday and it runs great - there's just one problem. it is slow when playing 45s.

The service manual advises that the belt pulley needs to be the same height as the belt guide when in the 33 position but it is too low. it merely advises to adjust the pulley height accordingly but it doesn't say how to do this,

Any advice?

thanks Binkman. unfortunately the screw was not accessible from above so when i finally plucked up the courage i tore into the guts of the table. I found a bunch of mickey mouse repairs inside including several threaded screws which were a mission to get off. When i did I found that the motor pulley adjustment screw was also threaded and impossible for me to adjust. fortunately I also discovered that the motor mounting screws had been removed which is actually why the pulley was at the wrong height. I assume this was to eliminate the hum that is now present when i applied new mounts. the good news is that 33 and 45 both sound right now and the hum is only an issue between tracks. By that I mean when music is playing you can barely hear it (my wife won't even hear it at all). it's a trade off i suppose. When we have the money we will replace this deck with something better but for now I am happy. We have a number of 45s so I will put up with a little motor noise from a cheap, nearly 50y/o table.
 
Not quite sure what you mean by 'new mounts' assuming motor mounts? If you're getting TT 'hum' through the speakers try isolating the table further from the amp and speakers. If hum is the motor mounts perhaps some gasket type isolation. I suppose that motor shaft pulley screw could be loosened with some penetrating stuff and heat but you'd have take the motor out.

Don't know if either of you are still around or not but I just picked up a JCV-VL-5 and I was wondering how one adjusts the cueing up and down. I would like to adjust it up some more but the service manual doesn't say anything at all about it or show anything that I could figure out. Any help I would appreciate. Thanks.
