KA 7002 MC imput quality\experience?

This is my first post in the Kenwood forum.

I have a KA 7002 integrated (along with the matching tuner, scope and denoiser)

I am considering delving into the LOMC cart thing, and wonder if any owners use the MC input-and is it worthy of a high end MC cart?

I have always been impressed with the build quality, so think that Kenwood would have done a decent job. I have not restored my unit, so realize that this will impact the MC input path, etc.

Thanks

Correction - my mistake - there is a low level pre preamp built in....

Phono 2 is labeled for and switched on front panel for low\high input voltage. Kenwood's specifications state .06mv\200ohm or 2.5 mv\50k ohm input sensitivity, switchable from front panel.

Just hoping that some folks have used a LOMC with this integrated amp.

You're correct - it is in the schematic and manual, but in the service manual there is no discussion of the circuit. I would hazard a guess that most owners didn't realize this, and because of scarcity and price of moving coil cartridges even fewer used it.

Hi, I realize that this is an old thread.

However, worth revisiting

About a year or so ago I bought a 7002 from AK'er @Jenkster. This is a thread he started about this particular amp

audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/kenwood-ka-7002.866882/

Anyway, as intigued as I was by this amp it sat in the box for a year. If you read the thread about my particular amp it doesn't have any speaker protection. Anyway I decided to try it as a preamp. This unit amazed me. I was running a Soundsmith Hyperion through a SUT into phono #1. As I'm enjoying this combination I found this thread and bypassed the SUT and plugged into phono #2. The Hyperion sounded very very nice. Then I tried a Winfeld Ti. It sounds better than expected, but the loading isn't a great match. So, I'm running the Winfeld through a SUT into phono #2

Is this going to replace my fully restored Apt Holman? No, I have enough systems for both. However I certainly have no plans to put the KA-7002 back on the shelf

Matched with the right LOMCthis is a winner

Cheers
