This is how bored I am today waiting for the next post in hopjohn's Model 600 thread.
I have read (or been told) that a TA-100W module from a KA-9100/9150 will work in place of a TA-80W in a KA-7300, but have not seen anyone actually do it. Since I have a beater 7300 and a spare TA-100W module I thought I'd see for myself. Indeed, it does work.
This could be useful for the reason that it seems to me Kenwood made a bajillion 9100s and not so many 7300s, which would lead me to believe a good used TA-100 is more likely to be found than a TA-80.

Both the TA-80W and TA-100W are readily available "Brand New" from China on ebay.. I wouldn't trust these as far as I could throw them, and I still have a pretty good arm.
I WOULD NOT consider going the other direction and installing a TA-80 into a KA-9100/9150. The 9100 runs at significantly higher rail voltage, and I assume the risk of something going *poof* would be high.
Edit - TA-100W is the part spec'ed for the KA-8300/9800. TA-100WA is spec'ed for the KA-9100/9150. These are commonly swapped between units and are the same AFAIK.
