KAB Fluid Damper for SL-1200 series in action Video!

I found the most warped record in my collection and gave the KAB TD-1200 a try. The first minute is without the damper and the last minute is with the damper. The sound quality is poor and in mono due to the use of the internal microphone on my camera. Cartridge is a Denon DL-110. Nevermind the song, hiss, compression and lack of bass, it's that darm mic and youtube! :D

Thanks for posting that. One concern: isn't half full the intended limit of the damping fluid?

I started with 1/2 and went to 2/3. To be honest it may be a little more than half not quite 2/3rds...maybe 65%? :D

That paddle really is intended to damp side to side movement, not so much vertical. Very cool to see it in action. That record is horrible! Did you do that with a curling iron?? :)

No, it came that way. It's a 70's record and I could never really play it all that well, until now. :music:

One can see in the video that there is one warp with a rather high frequency which is causing an arm/cartridge resonance. With the damper the amplitudes at this resonance are slightly reduced.

It definitely damps up and down and side to side - I know this because it takes much longer to set the VTF. I've noticed improvements with skips and warps.

Damn! Always figuring it would be a great mod for that arm, but to see it in action makes it even more impressive. Thanks for posting that.
