Kappa 8 with four monoblock Crestron 2210s amps?

I wonder if that would work. Any thoughts on it? Any luck someone else tried this?
The amp is rated:
120 Watts at 8 Ohms;
210 Watts at 4 Ohms;
420 Watts at 8 Ohms bridged

Given what I understand to be the pretty low overall impedance of the Kappa 8, I certainly would not recommend bridged mode with those amps.

The Crestron might work if not bridged but overall, it would seem an amplifier with 2-ohm rating probably is a better choice for those speakers.

As these are commercial amps that aren't particularly well known in the home audio community, I doubt you're going to find an answer to this question. If they are already in your possession, you might be able to get away with using them in stereo mode (they have built-in overcurrent protection, so you're unlikely to do any damage), but if you're considering purchasing them, I think there are better options.

I thought so, but wasn't sure. I will have four of these for less than $100 for all, and I already have one - it does sound pretty good to me - so maybe I will try them in a stereo mode, each connected to the Kappas after I finish the repair of the midranges, though, the Crestron does not go as low as 2ohm on paper.

I'm tempted by reduced interchannel talk as I can use four of them in a stereo mode to power the Kappas. 240wpc to each of them from 4 separate sources, may result in some not too shabby, but also likely that the Kappas will chew through them all, so that's why I thought of asking the more experienced. Thank you!
 

Just FWIW, connecting two separate 120W amps to each speaker may have some benefit but one of them will not be 240W.

With 8 channels of amplification, if you feel ambitious, you could bring out all bare driver connections to the back panel and do active quad-amping (you'll need an active crossover or DSP to do it). Another AK'er was trying this recently with Kappa 8s or 9s (can't remember which). I'm not sure where he left off but I think he completed the project. That'd probably be more beneficial than passive biamping, but of course it's also a lot more work.

I would just run 2. I Would remove the tie straps from the speaker binding posts, and use channel A of one amp to run the highs, and channel B of the same amp to run the lows in a bi-amp configuration on the same speaker. This will keep cross talk down as each amp will only power speakers on the left or right separately. If your amplifier doesn't have a dual mono switch to allow one input to run both outputs, you may need to split your input to run both channels. I would also make sure your preamp can put out some voltage. Being as those are pro amps, they have pro +10db inputs. They require 2.2V to reach rated power. A home audio amp usually requires much less, somewhere in the realm of .775V to reach rated output. Some pro amps have switchable input sensitivity, or some like my JBL/Urei 6290 only require 1.1V to reach rated power. Just something to think about

Maybe, also, with the two amp idea, I run one of the amps to power the lower range of both speakers and the other amp to run the treble? I will try this one too, though I'm not sure to what benefit. Still interesting how it may turn out. Well, I have two pairs of beastly Grafyx Model 10 (which are my everything right now) to try the amps with when the remaining arive arrive. (I only got the first one, the rest are being shipped) Will see. It will be interesting if I can succeed to make a great sound out of the Kappas with those. My preamp is.. a receiver. One of few, but I like this RX-V3800. The damping is just about good for some speakers and the power is not too bad to use it on it's own.

That's comes up a fair bit but in most cases there isn't all that much difference in input sensitivity re. amplifiers.

That whole "pro level" vs "consumer level" thing is more about line level inputs/outputs, not variable level like between preamp and amp. "pro level" is +4dBu (1.228V) and consumer level is -10dBv (0.316V). Again though, regardless of the actual numbers they're not really intended as descriptors for variable level signals.

In the specific case of the Crestrons of topic, 2.2V is with the "gain" control at 12 o'clock. But, it has -/+10dB gain range making the input sensitivity adjustable from roughly 7V to 0.7V. And, again, why "pro level" or "consumer level" really doesn't apply given that variability.

Thanks for clarification. I didn't see the part about the gain only being halfway up. I have just heard from someone in the pro audio field to be aware of input sensitivity differences
