Keep the Shure V15 Type III or not?

I am setting my hifi system back up after some absence of several years, refurbishing speakers, etc.
I have a Technics SL-1200MK2 turntable, original arm, and a Shure V15 type III cartridge. Stylus is good (very little use since it was replaced by an OEM replacement.)

I've read comments that some of these cartridges need to be "de-magnitized" over time.
Is this one of them?
If so, how do you go about doing that?
Or should I just hook everything up and evaluate the sound? Most of my LPs are old jazz recordings of average fidelity, some even old mono LPs, so absolute classical perfection is not mandatory, but obviously I want the best I can get out of what I have.

Looking for some experienced advice and suggestions.

If I were to replace the Shure, what would I want to consider?

The Shure V15 III is mean for a lighter tone arm than the one on the Technics SL-1200 MK2.

If you are happy with it, keep on using it or save it for a lighter tone arm in the future.

A new cartridge in the same league as the Shure V15 III would may consider expensive to some users. :eek:
 
I would keep the Shure if you like the sound, otherwise you might want to look into a Denon 110 or a vintage Pickering 1200E or ADC XLM MKII.
 
Nice cartridge.

I was told they are “magic” on the SME 3009 II equipped TD124 I got a couple months ago. I have the cartridge, even mounted it on a head shell but not gotten around to installing it yet.
 
Keep it for now. You may love it. If you live with this gem for a while and you don't, you've lost nothing and gained something worth selling to a good home.
 
Way too much silliness in the audiophile world about demagetizing things. I'm surprised nobody has insisted you need to demagetize your house. Or, have they?

After going through several carts I bought a vividline stylus for a old v15lll body I had laying around. I was blown away by its performance when I tried it with the vividline. It is staying on my tt!
You don't want to demag any mm cart. A mm has magnets inside that have to be magnetized to work. You would probably kill it if you demagnetized it.
 
IMHO, a superior cartridge. I have one and enjoy it thoroughly. I have never heard of demagnetizing a MM cartridge, which I think would ruin it.
 
The V15 type III works fine on the Technics SL-1200MK2 at 1¼ grams. It will track at 1 gm. but I have a Shure tracking record that possibly suggests a tiny bit of problem at 1 gram so I increased tracking ¼ gram.
 
Something about the III with vn35e that sounds so good... Probably not high end audiophile but very organic (not sure what organic means in this context) o_O

Spinning that combo now
 
Have you ever sold or thrown out something and then regretted doing so? That’s what will happen to you if you part company with the V15 III.
