KEF C75, Sound bad and getting worse?

Hey, guys.

Got another speaker question for you.

I recently got a pair of KEF C75 speakers in to look at. I was told that possibly one tweeter was bad. I plugged them in to test them out...

They sounded terrible. Muffled and dry and lame. Then, as I continued to listen, I lost all treble from the left speaker (which had been the good one), then lost pretty much all sound from that one.

Then the sound would kind of come back for a bit, then peter out...

Sounded like a receiver in need of a good DeOxit treatment. But the rest of the stereo is fine, I assure you.

What would cause such a thing in speakers? I had a pair of Polks once that needed the fuse housing DeOxited. Do these KEFs have a fuse or a pot somewhere?

anybody? I may have a similar problem with one speaker. The other one sounds fine, actually its sounds great. TIA Mike

That series had many issues. First is that they were not capable of holding up under high wattage or clipping. The tweeters just stop and you will find no continuity on yours, I feel quite certain. The other problem that I ran into with these is the woofer cone separates from the spyder. There is no real way to re attach the cone to a spyder. I even went so far as to have a speaker repair have a go at them, but they wanted nothing to do with it.

I think you will find that my problems may also be your problems. Good luck.
