Kef Cadenza 1024 speakers - after info/advice!

Afternoon all,

I have recently been gifted a pair of Kef Cadenza 1024 speakers by my father in-law - he saved them from a skip!

Physically they are in pretty decent shape, all things considered. The front grills have had their sponge backing go to dust, and the fabric looks saggy and tired, but can be dealt with. The cabinets are not too bad, there are the usual scuffs and scrapes expected from a 1970's speaker - I think I can clean them up nicely with some gentle cleaning and veneer replenishing jollop. The drivers themselves look to be in good condition, I suspect they may have been re-foamed at some point as they look too good to be original. There is no damage to the dust caps and all three drivers work and sound good.

My questions are - Is there anything specific I should be looking out for on these speakers to help determine if anything is amiss? I'm thinking specific tells relating to crossover failure/cap degradation etc?

Secondly, does anyone know the current market for these speakers? I love them, and they do sound great, but I am not sure I have the space to keep them sadly!

Any general info would be greatly received.

I believe the KEF speakers use rubber surrounds for both the woofer and the passive radiator so no need to bother with those. It might help to replace the crossover capacitors, but if they sound good, why replace them?
Regarding value, you could determine it by checking "Sold" prices of your speakers on eBay.

Rubber surrounds usually last a good long time, but they can develop cracks and can harden. If they sound good, they are probably fine, but inspect them.
The caps probably are off spec and should be replaced.
Fortunately, your woofers don't have the white ring around the dust cap that suggests delamination of the doping on the Bextrene cone.
 
Cheers all for your input. I’ll spend a bit of time on them to clean them up best I can. Seeing how they came from the in-laws at least SWMBO can’t complain for once! (Also they sound dead impressive, even to her hard to impress ears!)

Think I may have found room for them in the lounge, bonus is that they are firing off dead opposite my main system. And seeing how I have a spare streamer I can play one against the other for comparison… excellent weekend ahead!
 
I would not play them loudly until you replace the XO caps if it has not already been done.
