KEF Coda 9 - what to do?

The Coda is cheesy all round. Try buying a brick from a building supply store, then smash it with a hammer into several bite-size pieces and wedge it into the bottom of the box. Should do wonders for the bass.

sorry for simple question; how did you remove the back as cleanly as you did?
it is just brute force or have some helpful method?
thanks

I found a pair C9 for 170 Euro and bought them unheard, the rewiews on internet was good enough I thought....here's my review.

But when I first unpacked them I was chocked, light weight, thin plastic baffle, is this really a good speaker?
I opened the bastards and checked inside, the elements looks cheap /small and the quality inside tells me that this is not what I expected..

Well, plugged them into my Pioneer 757 with all adjustments in neutral.

Soft music with vocals and aucustic guitar sounds ok but not great,,,, with rock or blues is the bass weak and the sound overall is "not there" something is "holding it in a can" sort of..
With a song like walking on the wild side the speaker goes bananas and the base fuzzes and rattles togheter with the plastic and the thin box.

My old worn out Ljudex 5 from 1979 kills the C9 in the sleep, and I who thougt they was ready for the junkyard..

How is it possible to call this speaker a god one, please tell me?

Pictures look like it's just held in by screws. Probably just use a plastic knife to pry it apart to keep from marring, after removing screws.

I have owned many kefs however i have stayed away from codas. They look very much like mass produced models built with the purpose to shift units for lowend hifi or AV use.

Still, they may sound half decent with a recap to open up the highs, and a bit of cabinet reglueing and restuffing, maybe?

Yeah crap, but instead for throwing them in the bonfire I'm going to rebuild them to new dimensions just for fun and if successful, use them as garage speakers.

They're not crap at all, at least the 7's which appear to be 9's in a smaller box. They're actually quite good. I have bought and sold 100's of speakers since buying a pair of Coda7's new ages ago, but they are still in use in a bedroom mini HT system. I did add an entire roll of Mortite to the inside baffle and back panel, as I described in this thread 8 years ago, a mod that costs a few bucks and takes about ten minutes per speaker. They are surprisingly neutral sounding in the vocal range and very smooth in the upper ranges. Power handling is also shockingly good, as they were (ab)used in a large home theater for a year or so as rears and held up just fine to explosions and such.

I have taken the elements out of the boxes now and found this:

A 25mm no name tweeter which looks like a very cheap chineese copy
A Audio pro midrange type HD701B with a decent look and a metal chassi.
A Sony woofer type 1-505-909-11 in plastic.

Anyone with data on the audio pro and sony?

One question about back panel screws and plastic screw holders.....how the heck did you manage to fix them back...mine are at least 4 out of six not holding the screw tightly and turning around.
I have coda 7 and I have problems with resonance. Maybe I would improve something, too. Any new ideas?
