KEF Cresta 1 worth it?

Hi all!

Quick question about book shelf speakers.

So I randomly found a post about some KEF Cresta 1 (assuming from the SP3320 on the back since the seller didn't specify) and I was wondering what a fair price for those is and if they are any good?

The other stuff around is usually Polk 30s or stuff taken from mini stereos so these got me excited since KEF is well known for quality.

I'll be powering them with a Pioneer SX-780. My current speakers are some random Onkyos boxes I found with no porting or removable grilles and they sound decent though I can hear some distortion in the highs as of recent.

So is $75 obo (what would be a fair offer?) for these plus a 3 hour round trip worth it? Or should I just keep on the lookout.

Thanks.

The KEF Cresta 1's were manufactured around 2001 and retailed for $440 a pair. $75 is a fair price, anything less would be a real good deal. I have not heard the Cresta's, but every KEF loudspeaker I have heard have been very good.

I own both Cresta 1 and Cresta 2. I have to say that I love them both. The sound is just very warm and clear. Ideal for Jazz/Classical Music/Alternative/Classic Rock systems. Not encouraged for someone listening to Hard Rock. The Cresta 1 s go on ebay for around 20 - 30 quid. Cresta 2 s around 35 - 60. The tweeters in them are identical. Only difference is between the Bass drivers. The Cresta 2 is obviously bigger hence has more punch in the lower frequencies. Both are lovely book-shelfs in my opinion.
