How to open up a KEF Home Theatre loudspeaker 3225

One day one my Home Theatre loudspeakers the KEF 3225 quit working. As I turned the unit over it briefly worked again, so I assumed a bad connection somewhere within the unit. But … how to open it up, on order to fix it? A friend of mine joined me and together we opened the unit up.

If you remove the loudspeaker front grill, we view the following image:

The holes in which the loudspeaker front grill is attached, are the solution:

At first we thought the these holes were some sort of plastic screws but they were not! We than thought this might be plugs, stamped into the front, and they were. With the aid of a so called ‘waiters knife’ (a rounded knife designed to remove the bottle cap of wine bottles) my friend was able to extract the plugs from the front panel. The holes they left contained little Philips type screws which secured the front panel to the rest of the speaker. Unscrewing them revealed the interior.

The frequency divider filter that was glued to the bass reflex pipe, had come off taking one of the connectors with it thus breaking the union. Luckily the loudspeaker was now repairable.

Good luck everyone with repairing this unit!
