KEF R107 - Maryland - $1500

This goes out to Heather... Potomac, Maryland isn't that far from DC, is it?

For $1500 all original without the KUBE is maybe NOT a deal, but I bet if you twist his arm you could get him to throw the KUBE in for that and then THAT would be a deal!!! Rosewood is hard to find!!!

So let's figure this out. $1500 buy it now. The KUBE is $350 extra.
If I use "make an offer" then the KUBE is $450 extra .
Past sales show $1500 w/o KUBE a bit of a stretch.
Prices of 107 KUBES have been all over the map.
20 watchers at 4:30PM-no best offers yet.
Also, at 25+ years old,no mention of driver condition other than sounds good.

Well, I'd say since I've bought and restored some of them that If they have been refoamed and are in as good a condition as these (Single owner, mint grills and no real signs of abuse) with the original KUBE (which these have, I checked) then I'd say $2000 is fair.

But as you point out, he doesn't mentioned whether they have been refoamed or not. In an unknown state such as this, I'd say $1500 with the KUBE is realistic. It will cost close to $400 with shipping to have them professionally done.

Good luck and let us know if he's willing to work with you!!! They are truly excellent speakers and worth that type of money!!! :yes:

$2000 is a tad steep in my opinion. The Rosewood is indeed more uncommon, and would increase their value a bit, but $2000 is quite a bit to spend on a speaker that was just less than $5k almost 30 years ago.

$1500 would be a decent price to pay, $1200 being a fair deal. I sold my totally restored Kef 107s for $1400, with original packaging, 9/10 condition, KUBE upgraded and reconditioned, etc. It depends on the market of course, but $1400 to me was just a little bit under what is a fair deal on a pair. I was asking $1800 originally which to me is the top end of what they should be worth totally restored, so $2000 for a pair unrestored is out of line. In my opinion, of course. ;)

With that said, yes, they are truly wonderful speakers with a fairly laid back voicing. Big dynamics and great sound staging are two big points of the 107. Excellent for classical, orchestra, acoustic material, live music, jazz, etc.
 
Thanks for thinking of me ... they're about 30-40 mins away (non-rush hour).
In all truth, I'm not enough of a KEF fan yet to drop $2k kind of money -
(maybe after I sort/refresh the 105.4s) ...
plus - the cash kitty is empty right now ...
And the DC market can go a bit high end for name brands ...

My goto speakers in that room are still the custom JBL 3 ways with the Smith horns ...

I wouldn't argue with Jeff... $1800 fully restored, in mint condition, all numbers match with the KUBE, in Rosewood... its good!!! :thmbsp:
 
I have to wonder what angle this seller is working with his pricing.
Also, I agree that outstanding condition commands a premium.
If a buyer doesn't have to deal with shipping costs and can demo them,
$1850 might not be unrealistic.
I'm sure we all agree this type of item is for a small target audience.
Maybe from a seller with a track record selling higher end gear.

Listening to(original to me)KEF 103/3 W/KUBE while reading todays' posts.

I always watch the market on that other site. I'm in the NYC Tristate area
and if I wait long enough anything that I'm looking for turns up.
Just took delivery of a pair of new,in the box Spendor A6r speakers at a 5 alarm
fire sale!
107 are on my someday list along with:
Quad 57/63USA
Spendor LS3/5A
DQ-10
Altec 19
AND AT LEAST A DOZEN OTHERS!

Man you have a lot of Quests!!! I'm with you on the Quad ESL-63's... Frommer got me going on those!!! And yeah, a nice pair of Spendor 2/3's would fit in the system!!!

I saw that single also. Not an hour from me.
Another pair in Lynbrook(also close)sold after a few months and a few relists.
Looked long and hard at that pair, but my new Spendors were a way better deal.
So many speakers--so little time-- so little money!

I keep screwing that up Bart... you and Jeffie-Mark or was it Markie-Jeff... gettin' old I guess... no, I have three sets already. I think I did have one blow this summer during a lightening strike. Haven't had time to dive into it to see what is up, but I guess I could always part that pair out if it's gone!!! :tears:
 
If I keep seeing these 107s going up at, or near $2k, I might actually consider selling mine! I'm really surprised at what some folks are asking, but then again, they rarely seem to get it.

Seriously though, If I thought I could get a couple grand out of my 107/2s, I might do it just to fund having a pair of my old ESL-63s refurbished. I love the KEFs, but the Crown ES-224s have been doing the lion's share of my high SPL playback of late, so it's not out of the question.

...eh, who am I kidding, I'd miss them. Besides, I'm too lazy to actually sell anything!:D
