KEF Reference 107 Speakers - Service Recommendation

I recently came into possession of KEF Reference 107 speakers. They are 100% original, so they likely need to at least have the woofers refoamed. I have refoamed speakers before, but none of the speakers were the quality of the KEF 107's. I was thinking of having them serviced professionally, to have the foam replaced, and check the crossover capacitors and the ferrofluid in the tweeters. Not sure what I would be looking at from a cost perspective, but the speakers are in absolutely pristine condition and have the KUBE equalizer as well.

Would anyone be able to recommend someone that can restore my KEF 107 speakers in the greater Massachusetts area. Anyone out there have contact information for qualified service reps that have worked on KEF speakers before

Thanks in advance!

Interesting speaker. Have you played them, yet? If you are concerned with the surrounds being bad, you need to be quite careful. If you have experience in re-foaming speakers, why would you hesitate with these? I think there are some tutorials somewhere on replacing the ferrofluid.

What are the eq functions on these? Typical bass boost? You were lucky to find them with the eq still intact.

Good luck, and have fun with them. Let us know your progress.

I just pulled a set apart. No big deal, nothing to it. Nice thing about these is you don't have to be super anal about the glue line since it's hidden. There's no dust cap either so shims are the way to go making it damn near foolproof.

Noticed these have a ton of caps to replace in the crossovers... Might be a good idea to swap those out as well.

I have played them at low volumes and they sound like they will be fantastic speakers. I do have the KUBE equalizer as well that is fully intact.

Hello HyKlas,

Thanks for your feedback. I was wondering how it was to pull the woofers out of the enclosure, as it looks like you have to go through both the top and bottom to get both out. Great feedback on the fact the woofers are hidden and shims are the way to go as well.

Easy peasy...

Remove the head assembly, remove the upper cloth covered panel, set the woofer cab on its side, and pull the top and bottom panels off.

Top panel has one half of the crossover so mind the wiring and take a picture of how it went.

Take note of how you remove the foam blocks inside as there's quite a few of them.

Start with the upper woofer by removing the bolt that goes through the middle then the 4 nylock nuts holding it to the cabinet. Don't worry about the center bolt on the lower woofer, just take the 4 nylock nuts off. Gotta tilt and turn the woofers around to get them out.

Any time... I literally just took a set apart 2 days ago. ;) Wish these ones were as nice as you mention yours being. I'd be headed an entirely different direction...

Best of luck with them!

Oh... Here's a good video of disassembly.
