KEF speaker ID? help

Hello

Need help to ID a speaker.
It has a:
KEF t27 tweeter
KEF SP1039 bass/mid
KEF P100066 crossovers
The terminals seems not an original, I reckon the cabinets are also not the original, anyone have an idea what are these, or what speakers are they sourced from?
If it is a frankenstein, what should I expect? what would it sound close to?

Very similar to the KEF 104 speakers, sans the passive driver and contour control so probably not a KEF. Speaker dimensions appear to be very close in size. I've never heard the KEF 104, but would imagine your speakers don't deliver quite the level of LF sound as the 104 due to the missing driver.

Might not be KEF at all, KEF supplied speakers to a lot of manufacturers. The SP1039 (1972, 8Ohm) This unit had a short coil/long gap motor system. Was used in the 103 (1976), 104 (1973) and 104ab (1976), these were the only KEF speakers listed.

Spring clips were not so often used by KEF. But, hey, there is a SP1039 in there !

I don't think they are KEF speakers even if they use KEF Drivers.

They do ressemble Tangent TM-1 by size, thin walls and aspect but they are missing the port.

How are your Tangents? you like the sound of them, how's the lower frequencies?

Certainly not a KEF product. The drivers are certainly KEF, used the in models mentioned already, but the crossover, although looks to be of KEF build, has an SP number that doesn't cross reference to any model. And even the SP number is 6 digits, rather than the expected 4 digit numbering used.

My guess is that these are OEM, not home built, as the SP1039 wasn't available in the constructor series, by a British manufacturer, affiliated to KEF.

They should sound fine, perhaps a bit weak in bass, but with good, clean low end.

The P100066 PCB was used on the KEF Coda II and the KEF C-Series II 2-way models. I imagine that if the OP removed the crossover and looked at the underside, we'd see the KEF logo. There's currently one on sale at the large auction site (no affiliation) with components almost identical to the OP's crossover.

I agree. As far as the crossover is concerned, P100066 ID's the printed circuit board part number and not the spec of the crossover. As eiraved pointed out, the spec of the crossover is on a label on the other side of the board. I've attached a photo of the crossover found in my KEFKIT1 speakers. I've also attached a spec sheet for your B200 SP1039 woofers. Do you know the spec for your T27 tweeters?

I'm looking at one of these crossovers out of my KEFKIT1 and it does say KEF on the back.
The inductors have very light gauge wire and these are probably lower cost for DIY. I've not
worked on many KEFs but it seems that they cheapened even some of the production models.
You have the better SP1039 woofer that I don't often see except in the better KEF models.
I'd recap them and see how you like them. You could get a 104a/b crossover if you want an
upgrade, and even add a port to make it more like the 104.
