Ok, as a disclaimer I am not a fan of Pop music. I am proud to say much of my music collection is artists who are not "Strictly Commercial". Anyway, something reminded me of this the other day, and I thought I'd post it for those who never saw/heard it.

What's the old joke about Jeff Beck firing Rod Stewart, and has been looking for a singer ever since!

Very interesting! Thanks for posting that. I’m not a fan of American Idol and most of the “talent” it’s produced, but Clarkson does have some chops, IMO. Frankly, it was totally bizarre seeing Jeff Beck on AI—he represents everything that show doesn’t—but his playing was bluesy and restrained and did add quite a bit to the performance.

Anyway, I kinda liked the clip. Clarkson’s voice is a little generic for my taste—I’ll take distinctiveness over multi-octave range any day—but she does have talent. And Beck? Simply one of the greatest electric guitarists to ever walk the planet.

You’re right about Rod. Jeff has been searching for a frontman as good as The Mod for a loooong time. Part of me would like to see a reunion of the Jeff Beck Group, but part of me doesn’t, because Rod is obviously content with playing oldies and standards these days. He doesn’t have much backbone left, but maybe Beck could give him the kick in the ass he so desperately needs! And maybe he could inspire Ronnie to get off the sauce. :D
 
I think Kelly is a pretty mediocre packaged product but Jeff is the man. I really have a lot of respect for him but find all his best stuff is when he has no vocals/guest vocals, etc. 'Cept for the early stuff with Rod-before he too became a mediocre packaged product. Check out Jeff at the last Clapton Crossroads festival, simply amazing instrumentals and solos and no vocals!
