Kenwood 3070 help question

Hello,

I just picked up a Kenwood KD-3070, and I'm having a small issue. When I put the arm down on the lead in groove I hear a faint sound in the left channel of the first few notes of the first song, then the song kicks in. Does anyone know why this is? It only does it on the lead in groove. Any help?

It's on the record. Called, sometimes, print through (from its occurrence on tape), it is a result of the soft surface of the record being pushed over by the recording on the next groove.

Thanks for the help Bob! I am having an issue with my Cart though. I was using it (Shure M44-7) on a Sansui before the Kenwood, and I had to replace the needle. Now there is noticable sibilance, and just general fuzz.

Before I replaced it with a Shure stylus I used a generic M44CS stylus. Could that have ruined my Cart? or done something to it at all?

Your set up is wrong. I think your table uses 49 mm or 52 mm setup.

50.5 mm I beleive. So is the cart just positioned improperly on the headshell? Using a printed protractor it seems to align fine

Try 52 mm. That should be right. if it still doesn't sound right try 49 mm.

52MM is generally the measurement used for Technics S -shaped arms, and 49MM for Pioneer S - shaped arms. This may not apply to the Kenwood series of tables.

Generally, the S shaped arms of that era utilized the Stevenson alignment geometry, so you'd likely benefit from the Stevenson protractor available over at Vinylengine.com.
