Kenwood 650 Supreme

Looks like he's selling both the amp and the matching tuner in that auction.

Not a bad price for both pieces really... :scratch2:

Still, I think that I'd hold out for a 700C/M... but maybe that's because I already
have a 600 and two 500s on hand.

The rack in one of the pictures looks familiar... I wonder if the guy is an AKer... :scratch2:

Scott

Did you see that he sold the 700C/M pair, a couple or C-200 Accuphase pres and some other nice stuff recently. Where did he find it all? If he has a system, what is he keeping?

That's Elroy alright. He had told me he was going to be selling those two pieces soon..

Damn, late to the table, again. Although that is about top dollar that I'd consider. I have the bronze faced KA-8150, KT 7550, and a 500 Supreme. That 650 would have replaced the 500 in a total bronze rack.
To the OP, the Supreme series is about as good as it gets for vintage, IMO. Kenwood had the time, engineering, and money to just get it right.

I was looking and looking and looking..... Now it's mine

I can't wait to see it. The guy said he couldn't ship it out until next monday.

:)

Oh, my audio rack is full, no more space for the 700C/M.

Hmmm... looking back at the auction again, it looks like it was for the amp only...

Don't know where I got the idea that the tuner was included... :scratch2:

Bigtime Congrats and welcome to AK as well!

Scott

Thanks Scott.

Do you think I paid too much for it? I haven't seen anyone paid more.
I did a research and knew the price for the 600/650 is anywhere between $250 to $600 original untouch. I currently have the KA 7100, and it drives my pair of KEF reference 2 with no problem, crystal clear sound, warmth mid, and very detail.

Well, a good condition 650 supreme is something I want to have and find for a long time, and AK members here also convince me to get it. I don't think I will be disappointed as I did when I bought the sony DA4ES for $850. All modern digital receivers under $1K can't compete with vintage analog integrated amplifiers, even my $50 KA-7100 beat them all.

Well, it looks like it comes with an invoice for a $500 repair bill... I can see clearly that the main
power supply caps have been replaced.

If you had bought an original 650 for that price I'd say you were nuts ( :) )... but that one has
been gone through and you should get many years of enjoyment "right out of the box".

I also know that you will hear a night and day difference between the 7100 and the 650!

Not knocking the 7100 by any means, but it's no 650! :thmbsp:

Kef Supreme 600,
Congratulations,
I've never heard a 600 or 500(or 700M).but my experience with the 700C,and EW's mod of the 700C,sure convinces me that Kenwood designed this range to be something special.
They certainly achieved that, and the Supreme Series remain outstanding sounding pieces over 3 decades after they commenced production.
I'm aware of Ezekiel's mods of these units and I wish I had the opportunity to hear them in person.
It sounds as if you have acquired for your self a very desirable 600 series unit indeed. In partnership with your Kef References, the result should be some fine music-making indeed. :thmbsp:

So,if Elroy is selling all his Kenwood Supremes, and his Accuphase C 200 preamp, what is he using that he prefers to those sonic giants?
Elroy.Please enlighten us. :D

Yes, I got it hook up, and WOW, what can I say?

music come out so sweet that I don't know what else I can do to improve.

high quality CD > Denon 3910 -> supreme 650 -> KEF reference model two = perfect!

-> = pure copper silver coated cable.

Wow, Supreme prices are on the rise and for good reason! I'm glad I'm not on the waiting list for the 650 or the 700M/C cause I already have them!

Quite a bit about the the Kenwood Supreme series (500, 600/650, 700) on AK, do a search. I was watching that 650 and thought with the upgrades it was a great deal (already own a 600), but beyond my spending limit at the moment. I do't think this really pushes the price for Supremes up that much, this unit had been completely upgraded (more than $400 in parts/labor) so if you subtract that it puts it back in the $450 range. It's essentially a brand new 650. Enjoy.

I think that the Supreme series is it's own best salesman, because nothing one has read or will read about them on any website can over shadow the effect of listening to them.
There is better out there, but that takes nothing away from the Supremes.
They 'touch' one in all the right places.
I think even if one moved on from them, they would have been responsible for 'raising the bar',so to speak.
