Kenwood Basic M1D Meter Adjustment

I was wondering if anyone knows how to adjust the power meters on a Kenwood Basic M1D power amp. I looked at the SM in the digital docs section on here but could not make heads or tails of it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

More info please. Are the meters resting at the far left when there is no power? Do they seem to be off on the calibration specs when playing?

As cademan already mentioned, more specific info is needed from you about the meters. Specifically are you trying to attain an even balance of out put or are you trying to get more 'Luminance' from them or is one lighter/darker than the other, etc.

I checked the Service Manual in AK ( http://akdatabase.org/AKview/albums/userpics/10004/Kenwood Basic M1D Service Manual.pdf ) and it does appear to be vague on info but read page 5 (Meter Circuit) it's very little info and basic. Also read page 9 which gives you directions on adjusting the meters luminance for each.

The left meter is lighting and moving but it is very low on the scale in comparison to the right meter even though the output is equal in both channels. The luminance is fine with both being equally bright.

Do you know how to use a DVM? Basic troubleshooting in the meter circuit is necessary. Could be a number of things but my first suspect is a resistor in that channel. Other things could be a cold solder joint or loose wire and/or connection.

I do know how to use a DVM but testing resistors is past my expertise. I studied the SM. On page 10 it shows a level control board with VR1 and VR2 pots but those are on the main board and are listed as the idle current adjusters. That's why this SM is so confusing. I can have my tech look at it. I just wasn't sure if it was something simple

Also wanted to add that if I change the scale from the x1 setting to the .1 setting the meters seem to even out.

I'll have to take the faceplate off and see if I can clean the switch. I tried pushing it in and out a bunch of times but no dice.

That, or the switch itself needs to be resoldered. At least doing these two things will help you rule out any major repairs.

Cademan gets the cigar. Cleaned the meter switch and made sure the connections were solid and they're working like they should now. Thanks Guys for the help. :)

I am coming back to this thread. My meters are working fine however I would like to adjust them to read as close to accurate as they get. The SM for this unit is not as easy for me to understand as the one for my M2 or the M2A. I was going to upload both the M1D and M2A SM's for people to look at but they are too big. The M1D is available in AK's database and the M2A over at www.hifiengine.com All Help is greatly appreciated.
