Kenwood KA-5500 vs Kenwood KA-5700

Hi people,

I'd like to start a discussion about two of the most well-known midrange amplifiers from the Kenwood manufacturer. In this case the KA-5500 from 1977 and the KA-5700 (or 5750) from 1979. I've seen the specs and it appears than the the KA-5500 has more power, more damping factor and more harmonic distortion (THD). As we know, not everything is about technical specs in audiophile, so, since the power is not an issue here, which one would you choose?

For MY use, the KA-5500 has no loudness switch and this was sad.
I had it in the kitchen, on small loudspeakers, and i missed loudness.
Other then that, i can't say, never owned a 5700.

Well, the OP would definitely get more responses from the Kenwood forum, but that doesn't mean he won't get responses here.

I've had both amps, and IIRC, I like them both equally well. That being said, I had them at different times, so never did an AB comparison. They are both very nice looking units with dual meters, and I liked both of them while I had them. I think I got more for the 5500 when I sold it. I've had multiple 5500s, and only one 5700. That might mean they are more rare, or people are holding on to them more. They are surprisingly powerful for the ratings with that deep pleasantly bassy sound Kenwood is known for. Kenwood made some very good gear that stands the test of time.

Thanks for your answer. I really love the old Kenwood sound. I have several Kenwood, Pioneer and Sansui amps, but the Kenwood, both for sound and design are my favourite.
