Kenwood KA-7300 Integrated Amplifier Issues

LOL, I was just trying to figure out if your problem was in the preamp section or the power amp section. Power amp section works great. Preamp section may need work but I think deox might help with the volume and tone controls. You already got over your weird acting relay problem so you now have a nice integrated amplifier there.

Yeah, I would definitely think a good dose of deoxit is needed considering this amplifier has sat unused for nearly 5 years plus the unit was never properly serviced before until now.
 
The original transistor is a BCE pinout, not ECB and the replacement is ECB. Did you install the new transistor with the E and C legs crossed? I wish you had of pm'd me before you started. You said you read the datasheet- look up fairchild's datasheet for ksa992, ECB left to right, no mistake.

Well It's not like circuit board was marked which way the transistor went. So how was I supposed to know? And I don't think that pm'ing you would of made any difference, especially considering you wouldn't of known any better than me which position was which on the board considering that it isn't marked anywhere which leg goes where.
 
I just checked some other datasheets, it appears ECB is the correct layout.

You are just a ball of joy aren't you- your attitude is crazy negative. I just don't understand this type of human behaviour. If someone were to help me out, a perfect stranger who I didn't know, i'd be overjoyed by their willingness to help me out. Not you, you take every opportunity to **** all over the person helping you out. I stuck it out with you, took every opportunity I could to point you in the direction I could yet you till manage to point the guns at the innocent, the one who asks you "why didn't you come back to the help?" If you had a flat tire on the highway and I stopped to help and couldn't change the tire cause the lug nuts were seized on you'd blame me for not having the proper equipment to remove the seized lug nuts. I guess I chalk it down to some people just can't be pleased. If you want to work on this stuff patience with repair and the people you will lean on for help is essential cause once you burn your bridges they will take a long time to be rebuilt if ever.

Did I say anything? No I didn't so why are you assuming that I'm being negative about everything? I'm very grateful for the help I've had on here, its just that sometimes I get flustered if something doesn't go right the first time around when I'm working on it. I just want you to know I do have Autism, which people with Autism have a hard time expressing themselves in the right way, so before you go yelling and ranting at me for being ungrateful please consider what all I have to deal with.

That explains the behavior then, now it all makes sense. You must be highly functional if you can make an attempt to repair audio gear, my hats off to you. Take it a lesson learned , you get more with sugar than you do with salt. I have learned from this that a users behavior in a post may not be what I think it is. electronics repair is all about patience , I used to spend days working out issues, the frustration got so bad I would go to bed and not fall asleep for hours.

And like I said I'm sorry if my comments came off the wrong way to you, it wasn't my intention, and yes I am high functioning, I have actually had a knack for repairing computers and electronics ever since I was 12 years old, my first sucessful repair was a 1980s vintage Montgomery Wards 13" Black and White Television set that a friend gave me that had a messed up vertical and horizontal hold which all I did was adjust the Vertical and Horizontal hold adjustments on the back and the picture went back to normal and I actually used that TV for quite a few years as my personal TV set in my room back at home before I finally donated it to goodwill and then someone gave me a 13" Zenith Color TV that I used for several years until I finally got a 19" Color TV set from Goodwill and then we used that Zenith in my parents Kitchen for a few years until we finally donated it to a local thrift shop. Anyways so yeah there you have it.
I've actually got an original coin-op Atari Missle Command arcade game that I bought off of a friend for $50 but it seems to have a problem with the video because I can't seem to get any picture to come up on the screen, (it also had a problem with the original game processor board but I had since then replaced it with a new one but like I said it has a video problem now.)
 
Well the Kenwood is hooked up to the projector and I was just testing it out with a copy of Mary Poppins and the amp is working beautifully now, I cleaned the volume pot with some deoxit and the volume control is still a little noisy yet but not nearly as bad as it was before and the audio sounds better when you adjust the volume now than it did before. With this Kenwood amplifier installed on my projector it sounds more like a movie theater than it did when I had my old Magnavox receiver installed. :yes: :D :banana:
 
Good job. Glad you finally got it going.

I'm quite fond of the 7300 I have, it was the 1st amp I really ever worked on. This forum helped me with that.

Mine is actually growing on me as well anyways what's funny is that I was looking up the specs on this amplifier the other day and it seems that this thing is capable of about 180 watts @ 8 ohms and 200 watts @ 4 Ohms which is funny because the repair guy I bought this amp from was kind of down playing this amp's specs acting like it was the lowest powered amp he had in his shop (because I had asked him what he had as far as low powered amps went because I was going to use it to power an old Knight Kit console that a friend of mine had given me to monkey around with a few years back which all I have of that console now is the cabinet which I use for my projector now) and anyways he sold it to me for $60 so I don't know if I did good there or bad. Although considering that the guy had high end Sansui receivers like the 9090s and Pioneer SX-390s then it would probably make sense that the lowest end amplifiers he would have would be a Kenwood KA-7300... :scratch2:

Also own a 7300, continuous output into 8ohms at rated specifications 65watts/channel. Who cares but dynamic power is 250watts into 4ohms, maybe this is where you're confused.

65 watts of good clean output is nothing to sneeze at, back in the day that would have been a power house. These amps are capable of outputting some wonderful sound, good luck with yours.

I guess but I really don't get what the difference is or why there would be two different power ratings for an amplifier if only one of them actually matters...
 
The one that matters is the continuous rated power output, 65 watts into 8Ω in this case. All the others are instantaneous ratings, which in my opinion are of limited value and give a false impression of what the amplifier is capable of.
