Kenwood KA-9100 Integrated Amp on E-pray

A wonderful amp... I have had one for a year or so and love it.

Prices on these have gone from about $200 a year ago to $300+ in the last few months.

Wow, really? I just don't know if I'd pay that much for this model as it has a nearly impossible to find power mod from what I've heard.

It looks great, but maybe the 8100 would be less expensive and easier to find parts for if something happened.

Nice powerful amps, and very flexible.

The power output packs, which you mention, are unobtanium.

The tape residue on the far right side of the faceplate bothers me. He states that he is the original owner. I wonder if that residue is from price stickers.:scratch2:

Other than that, it looks clean.

I noticed that the power light is on, yet the lamps don't look lit. :scratch2:

The power output packs; are they very rare just for this 9100 or other Kenwood amp models too, or do these not use the type used on the 9100? (Pardon my ignorance, but it's hard to find a lot of info on vintage Kenwood it seems).

The lamps look like they are working from where I sit.

EW knows gobs about these amps, as far as the power packs go.

Funny, to me they look unlit, but I suppose it wouldn't be a big deal to replace them anyway.

Anyone have any opinions about whether Kenwood receivers are any good compared to their amps? I think I would like to get a nice 60+ wpc Kenwood amp or receiver.

The KA-9100, KA-8300, KA-7300, and KR-9600 receiver all use the impossible-to-find output modules. They are NOT prone to failure, but fools are ingenious, and blow them from time to time.

Allright, thanks for the info!

EW is spot-on. I wouldn't let the output modules stop you from purchase of an excellent integrated. I have the KR-9600 and I just don't worry. Of course common sense and knowing the limits of the equipment helps.

As long as you do not expect "concert level" out of two pair of 4 ohm speakers hooked up at once you should be fine.

In fact, with almost ANY vintage equipment excepting a few a/d/s/ atelier pieces I would NEVER run two pair of 4 ohm speakers.

Best,

Paul :thmbsp:

I do like to listen to music fairly loud at times, but not the majority. And yes, stressing any vintage equipment is not the best, but I do feel like these things were built to last more than the later components.

Anyway, this amp (or one similar) could last 10 years or it could last 1. And if it went out, then I'd be out of a few hundred dollars. I'd rather get something with less power that would be easier to fix if something happened. Just my preference, and I totally understand what you're saying.
