Kenwood ka-9100 problemo

Hey all, I found a Kenwood Ka-9100, Kt-7100 tuner, matching tape deck, all in wood cases, plus a sweet Pioneer PL-530, for $100 bucks at a local thrift store. Great right? Everything else works fine...

Except I cannot get a signal into the 9100, the meters don't move. It powers on and the lights come on, but no sound or meter movement. I am no repair guy like many of you. Ideas, maybe a fuse, or safe mode, or I just don't have the switches right? Thank you all so much.

You need to hear a gentle 'click' about 4 or 5 seconds after power on. If you do not, then:
A. Either the protection circuitry is preventing the relay from engaging because of excessive DC offset (caused by a number of things, including the possible destruction of the 'difficult to source' power output modules used in the 9100), or
B. The protection circuitry itself has issues (a bitch to fool with on the 9100).

These are the most likely issues, and none are really a DIY project for a novice.

Part it out?

Thank you. Yes, I always listen for that click. I'm going to try that out. The store was crowded and noisy. It will be an expensive repair if it's that safety relay because it's so hard to get at. Any chance of parting the thing out. I think I'm going to sell all on Ebay.
