Kenwood kd-1033 anti-skating weight

I recently purchased a Kenwood kd-1033 turntable that is missing the anti-skating weight. The anti-skating adjustment for this TT works by a thread and weight system attached to the tonearm. I was wondering if anyone who has this turntable could tell me what is the proper weight in grams for this missing anti-skating weight? Maybe you could even weigh your own weight if you happen to have a scale? Or if someone has a guess as to what it would work? I am looking to buy/fashion a new weight for my turntable, and I'm wondering for example if this would work: http://www.needledoctor.com/Project-Anti-Skate-Weight - Stock replacement anti-skating weights seem to come around 2.5g or 3g. I have a Trio KD-1033 which is an equivalent to the Kenwood. It's a very nice 70s mid-range deck IMO *but* I have found this method of applying anti-skate is a bit of a PITA, at least with this particular tonearm. When I attempted what you are planning with the dangling weight I found the anti-skate force was (quite wildly) inconsistent across the radius of the record. I ended up just leaving it off altogether and using an Ortofon VMS20 Mk 2 cartridge which only requires a very low tracking force, hence anti-skate is not such a big issue. Good luck and remember the tinkering is half the fun!

I too have found with high compliance on my KD550 that no antiskate is necessary - I'm also using the VMS20e MkII.

For lower compliance I find that on both my Kenwood TT the a/s overly compensates. I use about 1/2 the indicated amount. Try a small 1.5 g weight and if it is insufficient add more. Anything like small clay balls will work to fabricate custom mass weights to experiment. Do you have a digital scale to make them?
