Kenwood KD-2055 Playing Records Fast

Hey all-

First time poster - if I make any formatting mistakes, apologies!

I recently started playing my vinyls again on my dad's old Kenwood KD-2055. Everything sounded extremely sped up, like my 33 was on 45 RPM. Hotel California sung by the Chipmunks - no one wants to hear that.

Some of the steps I have taken are:
  • I read the manual and saw there was a speed adjustment. The problem is that my record was all the way down on the speed dial. I can only turn it up and make it faster
  • I have changed the belt to a brand new one (hoping the slack from a 70's belt would be the issue). It didn't change the speed at all
  • I bought deoxit, but am unsure what to clean as I can't see the internal components without taking off the shell.
Do any of you smart gentlemen and ladies have any suggestions? Any and all are greatly appreciated and replied to.

You will need to open it up and spray the deoxit into the speed controls.

It will take a couple of shots, but will be needed. They are most likely pretty dirty.

Do you know of a schematic to take off the top or is it a good old find the screws and wiggle the top til it comes off?
 
I don't think there are any speed controls to spray. I used to have one of these. It's a 4-pole AC motor. If the speed is off by that much you may have the wrong model for whatever country you're in (or at least the wrong pulley). Are you in the U.S.A ? If so it should be a 60hz motor, Great Britain would be 50hz
 
I read about this problem and makes a ton of sense.

I am located in the USA and just checked the back of the player and it's a 60Hz.

FIXED IT!!!!!

The guide arm screw was loose. I noticed the new belt touching the bottom of the top "lid" of the motor pulley (making the belt spin faster because it wasn't being guided into the correct position on the motor pulley).

I tightened the screw on guide arm which placed the belt in the appropriate 33 position and voila "Life in the fast lane" sounds incredible!!!
