Hi Everyone,
Someone here has a KD-550 on craigslist for $150. She has not used it in a while, it worked last time she used it. Not much to go on, just says "works great" in the description. I just spoke to her, she said she would get back to me in about 15 minutes to make arrangements to see it.
It is not plugged into anything so am not able to audition it.

This is the link, can anyone offer any advice? Thoughts on the price. I do have a KD-500 but with small crack in teh dust cover. If this one is good and fits I may swap out the cover. If I do have an opportunity to get the table.
It has been listed for almost a week, I have made multiple attempts to contact via cell, text and e-mail. No response and just now finally did call, she answered and said she would call back in 15. Price was $175 but it went down to $150 yesterday.
Thank you for your help!

Thank you!
New development though. So as I said, after multiple failed efforts to contact the seller over the past week she did answer my recent call. She said she would call me in 15. So I am waiting and a friend who I also told about this turntable called. Actually I just met him over phone, I am picking up a Nakamichi TA-2A from him Friday. Well he also contacted the seller and immediately got a call back. Well he picked up the table for me at $150! Friday I pick up table and the Nakamichi from him. He said it looked like the table was good, did not have it hooked up to anything so will have to test when I get it but it is mine! Belonged to the girl's father who unfortunately passed away. I'm thinking all is good with it.

Edit was to make correction, not NAD TA-2A but Nakamichi TA-2A.

I got my KD-500 for a very good price and later found a tone arm from the KD-550.

So my is a hybrid KD-500/550. :D

Best of luck with yours!

Too funny!

It was pretty cool of Joel, gentleman I have yet to meet in person. I have arrangements to pick up the Nak from him Friday. He was able to meet this lady and and bought the table for me to pick up from him! I thought that was really nice, lunch is on me Friday! We meet at noon.

I read this title, opened it up and thought of stuff then read the answers. But my first thought as an answer to What should I look for, was to look for it to be in your car on the way to your place. What else did you need to know?

Heading up in just a few minutes to pick it up from Joel! He just texted to see if I needed help with directions. Will post pics when I have it here. Pretty cool of him to pick it up for me

I have it! It does work, we played couple of albums, does need a new cartridge or stylus. So now I add this alongside my KD-500 with Grace 707 arm!

What cart are you running on your Grace? Inquiring minds with Grace 707 arms want to know.

LOL! Quite right! Working on the system for my neighbor but will take a quick break for just a few shots! I seem to be having issues taking pictures! All coming out black! Not to worry, will figure it out, maybe interior is too dark here

Ortofone VMS 20E MKII is on the KD500 with the Grace 707 arm.
The KD550 has an Audio Technica DR250, can't tell what arm that is.
My next project , once I figure out how to swap cartridges and make adjustments, is do some comparisons of cartridges to tables.
The KD-550 could use some clean up, there are smudges here and there, and in the recessed area under the platter there is quite a bit of dust.
I should also look into checking oil condition and maybe cleaning out and putting new oil. I have not opened either, read somewhere they were sealed.
Open to thoughts and advice but I think I should start a thread in the Turntables section to get more info and advice.

Thanks for the cart info. Not sure if Kenwood made the arms but that's the stock arm supplied on the 550 from Kenwood, the only difference from the 500 which was sold sans arm, usually dealer supplied like your Grace arm.

Thought that would have been the arm that came with the 550. Will be working on layout of furniture and such over the next few days then start doing some configuration and comparisons.

Hang on to that Trio/Kenwood head shell.

Has azimuth adjustment capability build in, hard to replace.
