Kenwood KD-650 Bearing Question

I recently bought a Kenwood KD-650 turntable and love it! However, I suspect that the bearing might need work.

When I bring the platter up to speed at 33 1/3 rpm and then power it off (bypassing the electronic braking) the platter spins for maybe 10 seconds before coming to a halt.

Compare this to the platter on my Denon DP-62L which takes 8 minutes to spin down to a halt, and that is with a platter that has only half the moment of inertia as the Kenwood.

Is the Kenwood’s behavior normal? I am not afraid to open it up to clean and relubricate the bearing, but only if it is acting abnormally.

None of the marble-base Kenwood tables I've had exhibited the continual rotation behavior that you might get with other tables. You can perform the motor service that is well-documented online to ensure it's lubricated properly. Once that's done it should get up to speed within a couple seconds.

The platter gets up to speed in under one rotation, so I therefore assume that it is working as expected.

I guess I need to check mine. I don't turn it off to see how long the platter spins which is what you are saying you are doing. Lemme see.

Yup, the unit just slows down about 10 sec is right.

But go to liquid audio and do the motor refresh.
